UPDATE: According to the Director of the Al-Shifa Medical Complex, more than 500 hundred patients, including 300 wounded, are still inside the hospital.

The Israeli army began evacuating the Al-Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza City on Saturday morning after expelling the wounded and displaced people from it, Al-Jazeera reported.

The Director General of the Ministry of Health in Gaza, Munir al-Bursh, told Al-Jazeera that only five doctors are still in the complex to supervise the evacuation of the wounded patients.

Al-Jazeera initially reported that 120 wounded patients, out of 650, along with the premature babies, are still inside the hospital, and the medical staff is coordinating with the Red Cross regarding them.

However, the Director of the Al-Shifa Medical Complex, told Al-Jazeera that more than 500 people, including 200 wounded, are still inside the hospital.

“We are now heading south, and the scenes are tragic. We have already walked two kilometers, and the area is completely destroyed,” al-Bursh said, adding:

“We see injured people we can hear them crying for help, but we cannot help them. People are dying.”

Early on Saturday, a medical source told Al Jazeera that doctors, patients and displaced Palestinians were given one hour by the Israeli occupation army to evacuate the al-Shifa Medical Complex.

On Wednesday morning, the Israeli occupation forces stormed Al-Shifa Hospital, the largest medical complex in the Gaza Strip, and turned it into a large prison, blowing up a warehouse of medicines and medical equipment, and shooting at everyone who moved, according to sources from inside the hospital.

The Al-Shifa Hospital Director,  Dr. Muhammad Abu Salamiya, said in statements to Al Jazeera on Friday, that everyone in the hospital was being subjected to genocide.

Al-Shifa Medical Complex is the largest health facility in the Gaza Strip. It was established in 1946 and developed over time to include three specialized hospitals, employing 25% of medical workers in the entire Gaza Strip.
