A Palestinian legislator says nonviolent popular resistance is the most effective means of resistance against the Israeli apartheid regime.
Dr. Mustafa Barghouthi said on Saturday that the nonviolent protests, especially in the villages of Bil’in and Ni’lin, against the apartheid wall, illegal settlements, and Israeli violations of the rights of the Palestinians will continue despite an Israeli decision declaring the two villages closed military zones for the fourth consecutive week.
Barghouthi, who is the secretary general of the Palestinian National Initiative, added that the Israeli attacks and the kidnapping of peace activists — local and international — will not be able to stop the nonviolent struggle against the occupation.
Dr. Barghouthi also said that despite Israel’s excessive use of force, nonviolent resistance is on the rise and gaining more and more support in Bil’in, Ni’lin, Nabi Saleh, al-Ma’sara, al-Khalil (Hebron), Jerusalem al-Quds, Beit Jala, Iraq-Burin, Dir Estia, and other areas.
