Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said has said that Israel occasionally carries out operations in Syria in order “to prevent the establishment of a front against us”.
Media sources previously reported that Israeli bombardments had targeted weapons shipments in Syria in the past few months.
Netanyahu’s comments came during a speech he gave at a conference in the city of Acre yesterday. In addition to taking measures to prevent Iran from forming a front in the Golan Heights, Netanyahu confirmed that Israel also does “everything to prevent the movement of weapons, particularly lethal ones, from Syria to Lebanon,” and that they will “continue to do so.”
“It is important to prevent the occurrence of any confrontation between the Israeli and Russian military forces operating in Syrian territory,” the Israeli premier added, noting that the two parties are in close coordination to avoid such incidents.
Tel Aviv has often declined to comment on reports regarding the Israeli bombing of vehicles carrying weapons in Syria on their way to Lebanon.
