Bodies littered the Rashid Street in besieged Gaza when Israel bombed a convoy of cars escaping northern Gaza to the south. 

Israel has effectively cut off the Gaza City area from the rest of the besieged Strip.  

However, it said that it has kept the coastal road, Rashid, open for those who want to escape to safety.  

The road, however, was bombed on Friday, leaving many people dead and wounded.  

GAZA HEALTH MINISTRY: We call on the Red Cross to accompany a convoy of wounded to secure its passage until it reaches the south of the Strip after the coastal road massacre.

Shocking videos emerged from the scene showing scores of mostly women and children lying dead on the sides of the road.  

Some of the bodies of those killed were torn to pieces, creating yet more horrific scenes of dead Palestinian civilians.  

The head of Gaza’s media office told Al-Jazeera that the coastal road was declared by the Israeli military to be a safe escape passage.
