Make Some Noise, It’s World Kefiyeh Day: Wear Yours (VIDEO)

By Palestine Chronicle Staff

The Palestinian Kefiyeh is celebrated worldwide every year on May 11.

This year, fans of the Kefiyeh took to social media to mark one of the major symbols in Palestinian history.

The Kefiyeh was widely used and subsequently gained prominence as a symbol of resistance,  during the Palestinian Revolution of 1936-39.

Merchants, peasants and professionals decided to wear it to provide protection for Palestinian revolutionaries who wore the well-known white and black Kefiyeh.

Today, the Kefiyah still has a unique status in Palestinian culture and it is widely used in protests against the Israeli occupation. The following report shows examples of tweets that talk about the Kefiyeh on this International Kefiyeh Day.

The Israeli theft of Kuffyiah was present.

The Israeli occupation was strongly clear too.

Despite some views that the production of a blue and white Israeli Kefiyeh will eliminate the Palestine one, many are adamant this will not happen.

Friends of Palestine are urged to show their support and wear the Kefiyeh.
