US Secretary of State John Kerry said Washington’s support to realize Israel’s dreams and security will never change.
Speaking at an event hosted by the American Jewish Committee and the Yad Chaim Herzog Association at the UN headquarters in New York, Kerry said: “No alliance of Israel’s is stronger than the one it shares with the United States of America.”
“We do not deviate our goals to achieve a lasting and just peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians.”
“The Zionist dream embraces the concept of Israel as a Jewish democracy, a beacon of light to all nations, therefore we join hands with Israel here in the United Nations and at all international forums and condemn loudly all efforts that target its security and legitimacy.”
Kerry said a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was “not an impossible dream”.
“We all know from years of discussion and efforts: this is not an impossible dream. It is achievable,” he explained, adding that recognising a Palestinian state “demands courage, demands leadership”.
“Fear and bigotry can be defeated, but those are choices we now get to make. So now it’s our turn.”
