Israeli forces have attacked Palestinian and international activists protesting against the construction of an illegal barrier in the West Bank.

Dozens of protesters were also arrested during the anti-wall demonstration in the village of Walaja where Israel had uprooted dozens of trees to pave the way for the construction of the barrier.

The controversial separation barrier cuts Palestinian villagers off from vast stretches of their land and separates the West bank from the rest of the occupied territories.

In June, the Israeli army finally bowed to a court order and tore down parts of the fence in Bilin to re-route it.

Israel’s apartheid wall has annexed around 60 percent of Bilin. Local villagers have held nonviolent anti-wall demonstrations every Friday for more than six years now.

Every week, Israeli soldiers block their path and fire tear gas and at times rubber-coated steel bullets at protesters, trying to approach the construction site of the apartheid wall.

Palestinians and international peace activists say that with the construction of the apartheid wall, the Israelis are forcibly and illegally annexing land owned by Palestinians.

Tel Aviv began constructing the West Bank separation wall in 2000. The International Court of Justice says the wall is illegal and should be taken down.
