Palestinian worshippers were performing prayers there after being denied entry into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound by the Israeli forces. At least seven worshippers were detained by the Israeli forces in the aftermath.
Eyewitnesses reported that Israeli occupation forces obstructed the work of the press crews, preventing them from reaching their colleague Al-Kharouf to check on his condition after he was evacuated from the scene for medical treatment.

Permission to pray was limited to residents of the Old City of Jerusalem.
