Official sources reported that five Palestinian fishermen were arrested on Wednesday morning. Israeli forces seized their boats near the coast of Gaza City.
Sources added that the fishing boats were surrounded by Israeli gunboats, the fishermen were apprehended and questioned, their boats were confiscated and the fishermen were then taken to an unknown destination.
The Israeli government has set a distance of 3 miles out for Gaza fishermen. This very limited area has gravely affected the catch and subsequently their livelihoods.
One boat was confiscated, its owner being in the permitted area, was among those arrested.
It was also reported that the Israeli gunboats fired missiles in the direction of the fishermen, but with no casualties.
Gaza fishermen suffer from such aggressions daily, significantly hampering their livelihood.
