The Syrian government yesterday reopen the office of Fatah in its capital city of Damascus, the official Palestinian news agency Wafa reported.
Wafa said that Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad notified the Political Department of the Palestine Liberation Organisation in Damascus of the government’s decision.
The Syrian foreign ministry authorised Samir Rifai as a representative of the movement in Syria.
Fatah’s office was closed in 1982 after the movement split.
Fatah spokesman Ahmed Assaf refused to comment because of a “lack of jurisdiction,” Turkey’s Anadolu Agency said.
