Palestinian prisoner rights group, Addameer, said the Israeli police formed a new unit on Thursday to carry out detention across Jerusalem.

Muhammad Mahmoud, a lawyer with Addameer, said that the special unit for Jerusalem detention will be based in the al-Qishla center of the Old City in occupied East Jerusalem, and pointed out that detentions were already carried out at the unit on Thursday morning.

Majdi al-Abbasi of the Wadi Hilweh Information Center confirmed that Israeli forces and intelligence raided the Ein al-Luza neighborhood of Silwan village near occupied East Jerusalem, raiding several houses, and detaining two Palestinians.

Al-Abbasi said that clashes erupted late Wednesday, during which Israeli forces used live fire, tear-gas, rubber-coated steel bullets and sprayed ‘skunk water’ randomly towards houses.

Israeli forces conduct near nightly raids across occupied East Jerusalem and the West bank, with a weekly average of 88 raids since the start of 2016, according to UN documentation.
