Lebanese Transport Minister Ali Hamieh instructed the Iranian plane to avoid entering Lebanese airspace after Israeli forces threatened to use force.

The Israeli army infiltrated the radio frequencies of the control tower at Beirut International Airport on Saturday and threatened to target an Iranian civilian aircraft if it attempted to land, according to sources from Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Works and Transport.

Israeli media later reported that the plane had turned back.

The sources reportedly confirmed Lebanese Transport Minister Ali Hamieh instructed the Iranian plane to avoid entering Lebanese airspace and to refrain from landing at Rafic Hariri International Airport after Israeli forces threatened to use force.

Earlier, Israeli military spokesperson Daniel Hagari warned that the Israeli army would not permit the transfer of weapons to Hezbollah, including through Beirut International Airport.

“We are aware of Iranian arms transfers to Hezbollah, and we will take action to prevent them,” Hagari said.

However, Hamieh dismissed these claims in televised remarks, refuting the Israeli allegations.

He emphasized that Beirut International Airport is “strictly civilian” and clarified that any military aircraft activity at the airport is subject to the exclusive approval of the Lebanese army.

Ongoing Aggression

The Israeli army claimed on Saturday that it assassinated Hezbollah’s Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah when it launched a massive airstrike targeting a residential area in the southern suburbs of Beirut on Friday.

According to the Lebanese news network Al-Mayadeen, at least six buildings were destroyed in the attack, which was reportedly carried out with 2,000-pound bunker-busting bombs.

According to the Lebanese Health Ministry, at least six people were killed and 91 were wounded. However, the death toll is likely to rise as the Lebanese Civil Defense said in a statement that hundreds of people are still missing.

At least 720 people have been killed and thousands were wounded in the ongoing Israeli aggression across Lebanon, according to the country’s health ministry.

War Escalates – Hezbollah Targets Israeli Air Base as Israel Launches Largest Assault in Years

An Israeli strike in the city of Bekaa. (Photo: via social media)

Israeli media has reported explosions in Tel Aviv and other areas of central Israel, while five rocket barrages were launched from southern Lebanon toward Israeli positions in the Galilee.

In response, the Israeli military bombed the Bekaa region in eastern Lebanon and the southern suburbs of Beirut.

The Israeli army confirmed monitoring five rockets fired from Lebanon, one of which landed in an open area in central Israel.

Israeli Channel 12 reported that 16 rockets were fired from Lebanon towards the Galilee, with one landing in the sea near Nahariya.

Sirens were activated in more than 100 locations across the Galilee and Marj Ibn Amer, as reported by the Walla news site.

The Israeli Home Front Command confirmed that sirens were sounding in the Upper and Central Galilee, northern Golan Heights, and Safed areas, while Israeli radio mentioned continuous sirens in Haifa Bay, Wadi Ara, and northern West Bank settlements.

Hezbollah later claimed responsibility for bombing the Kabri settlement with a barrage of Fadi-1 missiles and targeting the Israeli Ramat David air base near Haifa with Fadi-3 missiles.

The group stated that the attack was in solidarity with the Palestinian people in Gaza and in response to Israel’s ongoing military operations in Lebanon.

The Fadi missiles, used by Hezbollah for the first time in the current conflict, are area-effect weapons that target wide zones rather than specific points.

This was Hezbollah’s first operation following an intense night of Israeli airstrikes, during which over 40 raids hit various areas, marking the most significant attack since the 2006 war. The Israeli army claimed to have targeted Hezbollah ammunition production sites, but Hezbollah denied this.

Meanwhile, Israeli forces continued attacks on Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley.

Israeli warplanes also carried out multiple raids on buildings in Beirut’s southern suburbs, resulting in large fires and severe destruction.

Although the exact number of casualties was unclear, reports indicated at least eight deaths, according to the Lebanese News Agency.

Additional raids targeted the towns of Adloun, Zrarieh, and Kafour in southern Lebanon, as well as areas in Mount Lebanon and the central Bekaa Valley.

In eastern Lebanon, towns in the Baalbek district were hit with multiple Israeli airstrikes, and more than 20 towns across southern Lebanon were bombarded after midnight.

In response, Lebanon’s Ministry of Health called on hospitals outside the affected zones to prepare to receive casualties.

Since Monday, Israel has conducted the most intense attack on Lebanon in years, with 726 reported deaths and 2,173 injuries by Friday morning.

Israel Destroys ‘almost 80% of Agricultural Lands’ Vital to Survival in Gaza – Euro-Med Rights Group

By Palestine Chronicle Staff

“This is an expression of Israel’s insistence on committing genocide against Palestinians in the enclave.”

Israel has destroyed hundreds of dunams of agricultural land, depriving Palestinians in the northern Gaza Strip of agricultural land and resources vital to survival, according to the Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor.

“This destruction is part of a larger Israeli plan that dates back to last October,” Euro-Med said in a report published” on September 26.” Under this plan, Israeli forces have worked to eliminate almost 80% of the agricultural land in the Gaza Strip from use by Palestinians.”

Israel has done this either “by isolating it in preparation for its forcible annexation to the so-called ‘buffer zone’ or by bulldozing or destroying it by other means, such as bombardment—all of which are in violation of international law.”

“This is an expression of Israel’s insistence on committing genocide against Palestinians in the enclave,” the Geneva-based rights group said.

The Euro-Med field team in Gaza said that in the early hours of Tuesday, September 25, Israeli forces stormed the area of Al-Shimaa in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza,  accompanied by military bulldozers.

They began their bulldozing operations, destroying “more than 500 dunums of newly replanted agricultural land, which was supposed to sustain the needs of the people living in northern Gaza, who are subject to an arbitrary siege and systematic starvation by Israel.”

‘Security Zone’

Yousef Saqr Abu Rabie, a 24-year-old farmer in Beit Lahia, told Euro-Med that even though his land is outside of the “security zone” established by Israel at the start of the war, it was bulldozed.

His now-bulldozed crops had been bearing fruit that the people of northern Gaza were depending on, given Israel’s restrictions on the entry of fruits and vegetables into the northern Gazan markets, said Euro-Med.

Israeli forces have bulldozed or destroyed all agricultural lands along the “security fence” separating the eastern and northern Gaza Strip “at a depth of nearly two kilometres, removing approximately 96 square kilometres” of land.

This, said the rights group, was “in a clear attempt to annex them to its ‘buffer zone’, in violation of international law.”

An Israeli “buffer” road and zone splitting Gaza City through its centre, meanwhile, and the creation of Israel’s Netzarim axis to keep sections of the Strip separate, “have resulted in the destruction of approximately three square kilometres of agricultural lands.”

“Thus, the agricultural lands destroyed by Israel to enable the creation of its ‘buffer’ areas, specifically, represent about 27.5% of the Gaza Strip,” the report said.

Land ‘Off Limits’ to Farmers

It also noted that the Israeli army has worked to destroy almost all buildings and facilities on the vast majority of these lands, which are now within the “buffer zone” and are off-limits to residents and farmers.

“These lands represented the majority of agricultural land in the Gaza Strip and included hundreds of farms built on hundreds of dunams that were planted with vegetables and fruits, as well as hundreds of farms raising poultry and livestock.”

‘Our Home is Our Land’ – Land Day 2024 amid Gaza Genocide

Outside of this “buffer zone”, additional land has also been destroyed by Israeli incursions or aerial and artillery bombardment, resulting in the destruction of at least 34 square kilometres of agricultural land and the streets that service it, said Euro-Med.

“This brings the total percentage of destroyed land in the Gaza Strip to 36.9%, or more than 75% of the Strip’s area designated for agriculture,” the report stated.

In addition to Israel’s destruction of thousands of farms, greenhouses, water wells, tanks, and stores housing agricultural equipment, Euro-Med Monitor field teams recorded “the intentional killing of numerous farmers while these individuals were working or attempting to access their lands.”

Fishermen Killed

Since Israel’s attack on Gaza last October, the Israeli army “has also killed several fishermen and destroyed the majority of fishing boats and fishing ports” in the enclave.

“These actions have negatively impacted the availability of healthy food for over 2.2 million Palestinians living in the Strip, and the repercussions of this are expected to last for years after the withdrawal of the Israeli military.”

Farmers are also finding it difficult or impossible to access areas that have been spared from the Israeli bombing, due to the ongoing bombardment and ground incursions into numerous areas.

“Additionally, the lack of electricity, destruction of water wells, and scarcity of fuel all make it difficult to cultivate new areas and irrigate them with water,” said the report.

This, it added, occurs while aid supplies are being blocked from reaching residents and displaced people in the enclave by Israeli forces.

Soil, Air, Water Quality

The ongoing Israeli military assaults “have detrimental effects” on soil, air, water quality, agricultural land, public health, and the environment.

“These effects compound over time, and at some point, may result in startling increases in the death rate,” the report noted.

Environmental Impact of Gaza War ‘Unprecedented’ – United Nations

The rights group emphasized that the “internationally recognised human right to food, water, and sanitation is a basic right that protects population health and dignity.”

“It can only be realised if the international community puts an end to Israel’s crime of genocide; removes the illegal blockade on the Gaza Strip; and salvages what remains of the besieged enclave, which is currently uninhabitable on all fronts,” Euro-Med stressed.

“Delays will cause the Strip to deteriorate further, cost more civilian lives, and heavily affect people’s health outcomes,” it added.

According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, 41,534 Palestinians have been killed, and 96,092 wounded in Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza starting on October 7.

Moreover, at least 11,000 people are unaccounted for, presumed dead under the rubble of their homes throughout the Strip.

‘Nearly 90%’ of Gaza Aid Efforts Denied or Impeded in September – UN Official

Displaced Palestinians fetch water in Rafah. (Photo: Mahmoud Ajjour, The Palestine Chronicle)

By Palestine Chronicle Staff

Displaced communities “live in overcrowded shelters and lack cleaning supplies, hygiene kits and diapers, as well as clothes and infant formula for babies.” Stephane Dujarric

Nearly 90 percent of coordinated humanitarian aid movements between northern and southern Gaza have been either denied or impeded this month by Israel, according to the United Nations.

“Humanitarian aid movements in Gaza continue to face significant access constraints,” UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric told a press briefing on Friday. “Nearly 90 percent of coordinated humanitarian response movements between northern and southern Gaza so far in September have been either denied or impeded.”

He said displaced Palestinians continue to live “in abysmal conditions,” which are expected to further deteriorate in the forthcoming cold and rainy winter weather.

‘Action Now’ – UN Says One Million Palestinians in Gaza Need Urgent Shelter before Winter

“That would be the second winter that civilians in Gaza have to face” in those conditions, Dujarric noted.

Assessments recently conducted in two collective shelters in Deir al Balah and Khan Younis found that at both sites, displaced communities “live in overcrowded shelters and lack cleaning supplies, hygiene kits and diapers, as well as clothes and infant formula for babies.”

West Bank

He also highlighted the situation in the occupied West Bank, saying that the number of “internal movement obstacles” deployed by Israeli forces has increased by more than 20 percent since June of last year.

“The cumulative impact of obstruction to movement has been devastating, further entrenching the fragmentation in the West Bank, disrupting access to livelihoods and services for thousands of Palestinians, which is aggravating the already difficult conditions in which many live,” Dujarric emphasized.

In just one week — between 17 and 23 September — 11 Palestinians were killed, including two children, he said, adding that these “included exchanges of fire and an airstrike.”

Meanwhile, health facilities in the West Bank are also impacted by Israel’s actions.

Citing the WHO (World Health Organization), Dujarric said that from October 7 of last year to July 30 of this year, 527 attacks — including obstruction of access, use of force, detention and militarized searches — were reported on healthcare facilities in the region.

“These have impacted 54 healthcare facilities, including 20 mobile clinics, in addition to 365 ambulances,” said the spokesperson.

Lebanon

On the Lebanese front, Dujarric said the “recent escalation in the country is nothing short of catastrophic, with the surge in violence extending to previously unaffected areas.”

This has led to “the widespread destruction” of homes and infrastructure across Lebanon.

Lebanese Cope with Israeli Massacres, Prepare for Worse – Special Report

He pointed out that in less than a week, “at least 700 human lives have been lost, thousands have been injured, and nearly 120,000 people have been displaced, with these numbers continuing to rise as we speak,” due to Israel’s attacks on the country.

He said the main needs of those affected “include safe shelters, core relief items, healthcare, cash assistance and protection services.”

In total, since October of 2023, more than 1,500 civilians have been killed in Lebanon and 200,000 people have been forced to flee their homes, according to Dujarric.

According to Israeli media reports, the target of the strike was Hezbollah’s Secretary-General, Hassan Nasrallah.

Al-Jazeera cited the Israeli army radio as saying that initial indications are not sufficient to confirm or deny the killing of Hezbollah’s leader.

According to various sources, however, there are early indications that Israel may have failed to reach the Lebanese leader.

For its part, the Iranian Tasnim news agency confirmed that Nasrallah is in a safe area and that he is unarmed.

According to the Lebanese news network Al-Mayadeen, at least six buildings were destroyed in the attack, which was reportedly carried out with US-made 2,000-pound bunker-busting bombs.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, but no official death toll has been released as of yet. The Lebanese Civil Defense said in a statement that hundreds of people are still missing.

Some estimations, based on a visual assessment of the destruction, suggest that this is maybe the largest attack on Lebanon since the war in 2006.

Meanwhile, Israeli military spokesperson Daniel Hagari claimed in a press conference that the strikes were aimed at Hezbollah’s command center, which, as he claimed, had been deliberately constructed “under residential buildings in Beirut to use civilians as human shields.”

Al-Mayadeen correspondent, however, said that the targeted area hosted several charities, whose sole responsibility is to look after the welfare of thousands of poor Lebanese in the area.

The Israeli newspaper Maariv reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu left a meeting with journalists in New York after learning of the attack.

Following the strikes, Tel Aviv Municipality announced the opening of public shelters across the city, according to Israeli media.

Our Analysis

“For a few days, US officials and media have focused on a supposed acceptance by Netanyahu of a proposed ceasefire, suggesting that the extremist Israeli leader is ready to bring the conflict in Lebanon to an end,” Palestinian journalist and editor of the Palestine Chronicle Dr. Ramzy Baroud said.

“Later, it was reported that Netanyahu had changed his mind, supposedly under pressure from two extremist ministers, Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich,” Baroud added.

“The massive attack on Beirut, the assassination attempt of Hezbollah’s leader, and their timing indicate that all of this was a ploy and that Netanyahu had planned to kill Nasrallah even prior to his visit to the US,” according to Baroud.

“Netanyahu was hoping that he would make the announcement of Nasrallah’s death during or following his UN General Assembly speech about the so-called Axis of Evil. He wanted to be in the US to take the victory lap and to present himself as the savior of the Middle East and the world.”

“If it is confirmed that Nasrallah is safe, what is intended to be a decisive blow to the group will eventually prove to be a nightmare scenario for Israel, thus the panic throughout the country, especially in the central region of Tel Aviv,” Baroud concluded.

This is a developing story.

‘Statutory Requirement’ – US Committed to Ensure Israel’s ‘Qualitative Military Edge’ over ‘Rivals’

By Palestine Chronicle Staff

“We are mandated – we are required by statute to guarantee that … Israel has a qualitative military edge over rivals in the region.”

US State Department spokesperson, Matthew Miller, has stressed that the American administration continues “to be committed to the defense of Israel,” adding that it was “a statutory requirement.”

“We are mandated – we are required by statute to guarantee that … Israel has a qualitative military edge over rivals in the region. It’s not a discretionary question. It is a statutory requirement, and it is one that we are committed to,” he told journalists at the department’s last press briefing on September 19.

Miller was responding to a question about criticism that the US calling for calm while continuing to arm Israel was not a successful strategy for reducing tensions in the Middle East.

“We continue to be committed to the defense of Israel,” he said, adding that Israel faces a “security situation” with Hezbollah “on their northern border” and “a terrorist group in Gaza” that is “committed to the destruction of Israel,” as well as “terrorists groups that operate in the West Bank that are committed to the destruction of Israel.”

“Iran, of course, is committed to the destruction of Israel,” he continued, “So of course we are committed to Israel’s security.”

Miller said there was “also an important deterrent effect to the United States continuing to send a message to Israel’s adversaries that if they attack Israel, we will defend it. And that’s a message that we will continue to send loud and clear.”

‘Security Assistance’

Since Israel’s establishment in 1948, the US “has provided Israel with over $130 billion in bilateral assistance focused on addressing new and complex security threats, bridging Israel’s capability gaps through security assistance and cooperation, increasing interoperability through joint exercises, and helping Israel maintain its Qualitative Military Edge (QME),” according to the State Department’s website.

“Consistent with statutory requirements, it is the policy of the United States to help Israel preserve its QME, or its ability to counter and defeat any credible conventional military threat from any individual state or possible coalition of states or from non-state actors, while sustaining minimal damages and casualties,” the Department states.

This requires “a quadrennial report to Congress, for arms transfers that are required to be Congressionally notified, and a determination that individual arms transfers to the region will not adversely affect Israel’s QME.”

$8.7 Billion in Military Aid

Israel announced on Thursday it was ready to collect $8.7 billion in military aid from the United States.

The US military aid package to Israel comes amidst a genocide in Gaza and the fifth day of an unprecedented Israeli escalation on Lebanon.

‘Support Ongoing Military Efforts’ – US Grants Israel $8.7 Billion in Military Aid

According to a statement by Israel’s Defense Ministry cited by The Times of Israel, Tel Aviv has secured the package “to support its ongoing military efforts and to maintain a qualitative military edge in the region.”

“The package comprises $3.5 billion for essential wartime procurement, which has already been transferred to the IMoD (Israeli Ministry of Defense), and $5.2 billion designated for air defense systems, including the Iron Dome, David’s Sling, and an advanced laser system.”

Despite recent polls, indicating that more than half of Americans stand in favor of halting military aid to Israel, the US administration remains committed to providing substantial military aid to Israel.

Ongoing Genocide

Israel continues to defy a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire, Israel has faced international condemnation amid its continued brutal offensive on Gaza.

According to Lebanon’s Health Ministry, more than 700 people have been killed, and scores more injured, in Lebanon this week due to Israeli attacks.

‘Double Standards’ – Chinese FM Accuses US of Political Manipulation of Human Rights

Currently on trial before the International Court of Justice for genocide against Palestinians, Israel has been waging a devastating war on Gaza since October 7.

According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, 41,534 Palestinians have, to date, been killed, and 96,092 wounded.

Moreover, at least 11,000 people are unaccounted for, presumed dead under the rubble of their homes throughout the Strip.

Israel says that 1,200 soldiers and civilians were killed during the Al-Aqsa Flood Operation on October 7. Israeli media published reports suggesting that many Israelis were killed on that day by ‘friendly fire’.

Famine and Displacement

Palestinian and international organizations say that the majority of those killed and wounded are women and children.

The Israeli war has resulted in an acute famine, mostly in northern Gaza, resulting in the death of many Palestinians, mostly children.

The Israeli aggression has also resulted in the forceful displacement of nearly two million people from all over the Gaza Strip, with the vast majority of the displaced forced into the densely crowded southern city of Rafah near the border with Egypt – in what has become Palestine’s largest mass exodus since the 1948 Nakba.

Later in the war, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians began moving from the south to central Gaza in a constant search for safety.

‘Netanyahu’s Motives Not Rational’ – General Brik Warns Israel May Not Survive Expanded War

By Palestine Chronicle Staff

Benjamin Netanyahu “is continuing the war in which Israel cannot win against the Arab world.”

Retired Israeli Major General Itzhak Brik has once again warned that if the war of attrition in Gaza continues for another year and the conflict expands into a regional war, Israel will collapse, according to a report by the Middle East Monitor (MEMO).

“Israel cannot survive for long without the enlightened Western world, which is distancing itself from us,” Brik told Israeli Radio 103FM on Wednesday, the report said.

He said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s decision to continue fighting in Gaza, and if this “war of attrition” which recently expanded with Hezbollah, continues for another year, there is a high probability Israel may not survive.

Regional War

He said the explosions in Lebanon greatly reinforced the emphasis on the continuation of this war with the real danger of expanding it into a regional war on multiple fronts in which Iran may also participate, adding that this shift will accelerate the deterioration of Israel, the report added.

Why Israel Started the War with Lebanon, Not Hezbollah – ANALYSIS

Brik described the explosion of “pagers and communication devices” as “an amazing tactical event in all respects” and said it “indicates very high-level intelligence and technological capabilities.”

“Israel did not bear responsibility for this, but Hezbollah accuses it and vows to respond very harshly,” he added.

The former military official said he met with Netanyahu six times over the past year and that “Netanyahu’s motives are not rational, but rather stem from his desire to survive at any cost.”

“He is continuing the war in which Israel cannot win against the Arab world. Terrorism has begun to take control of Jordan with the support of Iran and Hezbollah,” he claimed.

Brik said Netanyahu must stop the futile fighting against Hamas and not decide to fight against the entire Arab world, the report added.

Previous Criticism

This is not the first time Brick expresses his criticism of Netanyahu’s actions.

In an article published in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz on August 22, he stated that Israel could face collapse within a year if the ongoing war of attrition against Hamas and Hezbollah continues.

“Israel is sinking deeper into the Gazan mud, losing more and more soldiers as they get killed or wounded, without any chance of achieving the war’s main goal: bringing down Hamas.”

The former Israeli general further warned that all current political and military strategies are leading Israel towards disaster.

“The country really is galloping towards the edge of an abyss. If the war of attrition against Hamas and Hezbollah continues, Israel will collapse within no more than a year,” he warned.

‘Best Solution’ – Saudi Arabia Launches Global Alliance to Push for Palestinian State

“We commend the countries that have recently recognized Palestine, and we call on all nations to show courage and take the same step.”

Saudi Arabia has announced the formation of an international alliance aimed at establishing a Palestinian state and implementing a two-state solution.

“Today, on behalf of the Arab and Islamic nations, along with our European partners, we announce the launch of the International Alliance to Implement the Two-State Solution. We invite you to join this initiative,” Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan reportedly told a ministerial meeting on the Palestinian issue and efforts for peace on Thursday.

Speaking on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, he did not give further details on the alliance.

Bin Farhan condemned the “catastrophic humanitarian crisis” caused by Israel’s war on Gaza and the “severe violations committed by Israeli occupying forces in the West Bank,” according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), cited by the Anadolu news agency.

He described these actions as part of a “broader policy of occupation and violent extremism.”

“The right to self-defense cannot justify the killing of tens of thousands of civilians, systematic destruction, forced displacement, the use of starvation as a weapon of war, incitement to hatred, dehumanization, or the use of systematic torture, including sexual violence and other documented crimes according to United Nations reports,”  the Foreign Minister said.

Potential Wider Conflict

Bin Farhan warned of a potential wider conflict in the region with Israel’s attack on Lebanon which has already killed over 700 people.

No Diplomatic Relations with Israel without Palestinian State – Saudi Crown Prince

“We are witnessing a dangerous regional escalation that affects our brotherly nation of Lebanon and threatens to ignite a regional war that endangers our region and the entire world,” he stressed.

Bin Farhan urged “an immediate halt to the ongoing war and all violations of international law.”

He also questioned the credibility of the international system, saying: “We must ask ourselves what remains of the credibility and legitimacy of the global order when we stand powerless to stop the war machine, while some insist on selectively applying international law in blatant violation of the most basic standards of equality, freedom, and human rights.”

‘New Reality’

The Saudi diplomat reiterated that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state is a fundamental right and the foundation for peace, not merely an outcome to be negotiated in a distant political process.

“We commend the countries that have recently recognized Palestine, and we call on all nations to show courage and take the same step, joining the international consensus represented by the 149 countries that have already recognized Palestine,” he said.

The Foreign Minister also reportedly said that ”Implementing the two-state solution is the best solution to break the cycle of conflict and suffering, and enforce a new reality in which the entire region, including Israel, enjoys security and co-existence.”

Last Wednesday, the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said his country will not establish diplomatic relations with Israel until an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital is created.

Addressing the Shura Council, bin Salman said “The kingdom will not stop its tireless work to establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, and we affirm that the Kingdom will not establish diplomatic relations with Israel without that.”

New Poll – Israel’s Attack on Lebanon Boosts Netanyahu’s Likud Party Popularity

Overall, the results show Netanyahu’s opposition bloc winning 57 seats, while his support bloc would garner 53 seats in the event of elections today.

The ongoing Israeli offensive on Lebanon, which has killed hundreds this week, has significantly boosted the popularity of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party, increasing its projected number of seats in the parliament, according to a new poll published on Friday.

According to the survey, if elections were held today, Likud would lead with 25 seats in the Knesset, compared to 19 for its main rival, the opposition National Unity party led by Benny Gantz, the Anadolu news agency reported.

The survey, conducted by Israeli daily Maariv, highlighted that “on the backdrop of a series of harsh blows dealt to Hezbollah and the escalating fighting in the north, Likud has strengthened this week.”

This is the first time since Israel’s genocidal assault on Gaza began last October that Likud has gained such an advantage, the report stated.

At the 79th UN General Assembly meeting on Monday, several world leaders called for the need to end Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip and Lebanon through a ceasefire deal that would elevate the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza and prevent further escalation in Lebanon.

Elections Delay

Opposition leader Yair Lapid’s Yesh Atid party, meanwhile, would gain 15 seats.

Then it is Avigdor Lieberman’s right-wing opposition Yisrael Beiteinu party with 14 seats.

Overall, the results show Netanyahu’s opposition bloc winning 57 seats, while his support bloc would garner 53 seats in the event of elections today. Arab parties are projected to hold 10 seats.

The report added that a majority of at least 61 members are required to form a government in Israel.

Imminent elections are not expected as Netanyahu has refused to call for a vote while the war is ongoing in Gaza.
