Nasrallah’s body reportedly showed no direct physical injury, raising the likelihood that his death resulted from shock due to the force of the explosion.
The body of Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah was recovered on Sunday from the site of an Israeli airstrike in the southern suburbs of Beirut, Reuters news agency reported.
The body was recovered on Saturday and transferred to a hospital, where tests are being conducted to determine the exact nature of the injuries and the cause of death.

Al-Jazeera, citing a local correspondent, suggested that Nasrallah’s body showed no direct physical injury, raising the likelihood that his death resulted from shock due to the force of the explosion.
Footage from the site of the attack showed significant destruction, including a deep crater at the location of the assassination. The images highlighted the scale of the devastation, with widespread damage in the area.
The Lebanese movement Hezbollah announced on Saturday that Nasrallah had been killed the previous day in an Israeli airstrike.
The strike, carried out on Friday by F-35 fighter jets, targeted a site in Haret Hreik, in the southern suburbs of Beirut.
The footage showed the massive crater created by the strike, illustrating the power of the bunker-busting bombs used. Numerous buildings were leveled, and smoke could still be seen rising from parts of the targeted area.
Israeli Army Radio reported that aircraft from Squadron 69 deployed around 85 bunker-busting bombs, each containing one ton of explosives, during the operation to kill Nasrallah.
The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth revealed that intelligence for the airstrike was provided by the Israeli Military Intelligence Division, particularly Unit 8200.
For its part, the New York Times cited Israeli officials who confirmed that Nasrallah’s location had been tracked for months prior to the assassination.
Meanwhile, the Lebanese army issued a statement calling on citizens to maintain national unity and avoid actions that could undermine civil peace during this critical time.
The Israeli occupation army continued its aggression on Lebanon on Sunday, targeting civilians in the south, the Bekaa Valley, and the southern suburbs of Beirut through violent airstrikes, the Lebanese news network Al-Mayadeen reported.
In southern Lebanon, at least three people lost their lives in an Israeli airstrike on an Islamic Health Authority center in Houmine al-Fawqa, while another strike hit the town of Jebchit in the Nabatieh district.

Additionally, the city of Tyre was targeted by several airstrikes, one of which hit a residential apartment. Israeli warplanes also struck the towns of Al-Majadil and Al-Qasimiyah, Al-Mayadeen reported.
Israeli artillery bombarded the town of Shebaa throughout the night into the early morning hours.
In the Bekaa Valley, a massacre took place in the town of Ain, where at least ten people were killed. A separate airstrike targeted a car on the road to Iaat, west of Baalbek.
Other airstrikes in the Bekaa targeted the towns of Othman, Labweh, Shaath, and Hermel, with particularly intense raids in the Baalbek region. The strikes extended to the outskirts of the Lebanese-Syrian border.
In addition to the ongoing assaults in the south and the Bekaa, a new airstrike hit the southern suburb of Beirut early Sunday morning, while the Choueifat area was targeted by four airstrikes.

These strikes coincided with the landing of a civilian plane at Beirut International Airport, according to reports.
Meanwhile, the Lebanese army issued a statement calling on citizens to maintain national unity and avoid actions that could undermine civil peace during this critical time.
The army warned that the Israeli occupation aims to carry out destructive plans and sow division among the Lebanese.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that 33 people were killed, and 195 were injured as a result of the attacks on Saturday.
The Lebanese Health Ministry announced plans to evacuate hospitals in southern Beirut as Israeli airstrikes escalate in the region.
At least 11 medical personnel have been killed in a series of Israeli air strikes targeting health facilities in the villages of Taybeh and Deir Seryan in the Marjeyoun district of southern Lebanon, according to the Lebanese National News Agency, cited by the Anadolu news agency.
The Lebanese news agency reported that 10 others were injured in the strikes on Saturday that hit facilities operated by the Islamic Health Authority.
In a separate incident, the Lebanese Civil Defense reported the death of one of its members and critical injuries to another during Israeli air strikes that struck the southern suburbs of Beirut late on Friday night.
‘Suspend Non-Urgent Cases’
Earlier on Saturday, the Health Ministry also announced plans to evacuate hospitals in southern Beirut as Israeli airstrikes escalate in the region.
In a statement, the ministry also urged hospitals in Beirut, Mount Lebanon, and other unaffected areas to suspend non-urgent cases until the end of the week to accommodate patients from the southern suburbs, reported Anadolu.
Israel has pounded Lebanon since early Monday with air strikes that have killed more than 700 people and injured nearly 2,200, according to figures released by the Lebanese Health Ministry.
On Friday night, Israeli airstrikes killed the Hezbollah movement’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, which has received widespread condemnation and fears of a wider escalation of the conflict in the region.
The ministry also said that the death toll in Lebanon since last October last year is 1,540. This is in addition to the more than 77,000 displaced from the southern and eastern parts of the country.
Intensified Fighting
Since the start of the Israeli war on Gaza, on October 7, the Lebanese movement Hezbollah has engaged directly, but relatively in a limited way in the war against the Israeli occupation.
In recent weeks, however, the intensity of the fighting has increased, leading to concerns that an all-out war between Hezbollah and the Israeli army is imminent.
Israel has occupied parts of Lebanon for decades and has only left the country in 2000, following stiff Lebanese resistance under Hezbollah’s leadership.
Israel attempted to re-occupy Lebanon in 2006 but failed in what Lebanon considers a major victory against Israel.
Israel, however, continues to occupy parts of Lebanon, namely the Sheeba Farms region.
Hezbollah has vowed to recover every inch of Lebanon that has been occupied by Israel contrary to international law.
The assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in an Israeli airstrike on Lebanon has been condemned by some world leaders while US President Joe Biden called his killing “a measure of justice.”

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati announced a three-day national mourning period following the assassination.
Mikati’s office reportedly said flags will be lowered at half-mast in all government departments and public institutions. All public offices will also close on the day of Nasrallah’s funeral.
Hezbollah, however, has not yet announced the date for the funeral.
Former Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri condemned the assassination of Nasrallah, as “a cowardly act” saying it “has plunged Lebanon and the region into a new phase of violence, and we condemn it in its entirety.

“The Lebanese haven’t forgotten there was a time when the soldiers of the occupying regime were advancing toward Beirut, & Hezbollah stopped them & made Lebanon proud. Today too, by the grace & power of God, Lebanon will make the transgressing, malicious enemy regret its actions,” Khamenei stated.
He said the “ruling Zionist regime hasn’t learned from its 1yr criminal war in Gaza & doesn’t understand the massacre of women, children, & civilians cannot hurt the strong structure of Resistance or bring it to its knees. Now they’re testing the same absurd policy in Lebanon.”
Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian said on X: “The international community will not forget that the order for this terrorist attack was issued from New York and the Americans cannot absolve themselves of complicity with the Zionists.”
Expressing his condolences on his passing, he said Nasrallah had “achieved his long-standing dream, that is, to achieve martyrdom,” and that his name “will forever go down in the history of Islam.”

He stated “The attack was ordered from the New York headquarters of the United Nations. And the cowards of the world are silent.”

‘Violation of Humanitarian Law’ – South Africa
The South African government expressed “its profound concern” regarding “the recent escalation of extrajudicial killings in the Middle East, most notably the tragic assassination of Hassan Nasrallah and other leaders in Lebanon.”
Noting the “hundreds” that have been left in critical condition and the thousands injured, the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) said, “The scale of injuries caused by these indiscriminate explosions is deeply troubling and warrants strong condemnation from the international community.”
“Such attacks on civilians constitute a grave violation of international human rights and humanitarian law,” DIRCO said in a statement, and “serve to exacerbate an already tense situation in the Middle East and appear to be aimed at undermining international peace efforts in the region.”
“We call for the perpetrators of these premeditated crimes to be held accountable through an international, transparent investigation,” the statement added.
South Africa “unequivocally condemns these targeted assassinations and the recent bombing campaign against Lebanon, which has resulted in the tragic loss of more than 720 lives since the conflict escalated on Monday.”
It called for “an immediate ceasefire and adherence to international law to prevent a major regional military conflagration, which would have devastating consequences for all countries involved.”
‘Cowardly Assassination’ – Cuba
“We condemn the cowardly targeted assassination of Hassan Nasrallah, Secretary General of Hezbollah, as a result of Israel’s attack on residential buildings in the southern suburbs of Beirut, causing destruction and death of innocent civilians,” Cuba’s President, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, said on X.

“Israel was definitely aware of this danger. Nevertheless, it took this step and started killing Lebanese citizens, which will almost inevitably provoke a new outburst of violence. Therefore, it bears full responsibility for the ensuing escalation.”
The Foreign Ministry called on Israel “to stop the hostilities immediately.”
“This would make it possible to cease the bloodshed and create conditions for a political and diplomatic settlement. In the current explosive situation, responsible members of the international community must do everything in their power to prevent the region from plunging into a full-scale armed confrontation.”
‘Infringement on Sovereignty’ – China
In a statement, China’s Foreign Ministry said it was “closely following the incident” of Nasrallah’s assassination and “is deeply concerned over the escalation of tensions in the region.”

China urged “parties concerned, especially Israel, to immediately take actions to cool down the situation and prevent the conflict from escalating or even spiraling out of control.”
“The tension between Lebanon and Israel is a spillover of the Gaza conflict. The pressing priority is to implement relevant UN Security Council resolutions, end the fighting in Gaza as soon as possible, and earnestly safeguard peace and stability in the Middle East.”
‘Israel Becoming More Reckless’ – Turkey
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on X that “Lebanon and the Lebanese people are the new target of Israel’s policy of genocide, occupation and invasion that has been continuing since October 7.”
Referring to the hundreds killed and thousands injured in the attacks on Lebanon, he said “No one with a conscience can accept, excuse or justify such a massacre.”

“The people of Lebanon continue to pay a shocking and heavy price for the conflict between Hezbollah and Israel. What we need now is for all parties to step back, de-escalate and support efforts to reach a ceasefire,” Martin said in a statement.
“A wider conflict would be disastrous for all the peoples of the region,” he added, urging an immediate ceasefire and deal to release captives in Gaza “to allow humanitarian assistance at scale.”
‘A Measure of Justice’ – USA
Joe Biden, the US president, said in a statement that Nasrallah’s death was “a measure of justice for his many victims, including thousands of Americans, Israelis, and Lebanese civilians.”
The WH response to Nasrallah's assassination is dismal. It reflects 2 decades of altering laws of war in the "GWOT." The outcome is to apply laws of war only among Western powers & apply what reads like just war theory to the unruly Global South #Threadhttps://t.co/j5uE0aKZuD
“The United States fully supports Israel’s right to defend itself against Hezbollah, Hamas, the Houthis, and any other Iranian-supported terrorist groups. “His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, Secretary General of Hezbollah, joined his great and immortal martyrs, whose journey he led for nearly thirty years,” the statement read.
Hezbollah praised Nasrallah, stating that over the last three decades, “he led them from victory to victory, succeeding the master of the martyrs of the Islamic Resistance in 1992 until the liberation of Lebanon in 2000 and until the divine, sustaining victory in 2006 “.
“The leadership of Hezbollah pledges to the highest, holiest and most precious martyr in our journey, full of sacrifices and martyrs, to continue its jihad in confronting the enemy, in support of Gaza and Palestine, and in defense of Lebanon and its steadfast and honorable people,” the statement continued.
“Our leader, His Eminence, is still among us with his thought, spirit, line, and sacred approach, and you are in the pledge of loyalty and commitment to resistance and sacrifice until victory,” the group concluded.
The Palestinian Resistance movement Hamas also mourned Nasrallah in a statement.
“We remember his life and career full of sacrifices for the sake of liberating Jerusalem and the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque,” the group said.
The statement also praised “the honorable positions supporting our Palestinian people, our valiant resistance, and our legitimate rightsì,” as well as “his insistence on continuing the heroic support front for our people and our resistance in the Al-Aqsa flood.
Nasrallah’s Assassination
The Israeli army said on Saturday that it assassinated Hezbollah’s Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah when it launched a massive airstrike targeting a residential area in the southern suburbs of Beirut on the previous day.
According to the Lebanese news network Al-Mayadeen, at least six buildings were destroyed in the attack, which was reportedly carried out with 2,000-pound bunker-busting bombs.
According to the Lebanese Health Ministry, at least six people were killed and 91 were wounded. However, the death toll is likely to rise as the Lebanese Civil Defense said in a statement that hundreds of people are still missing.
At least 720 people have been killed and thousands were wounded in Israeli attacks across Lebanon, according to the country’s health ministry.
Lebanese Transport Minister Ali Hamieh instructed the Iranian plane to avoid entering Lebanese airspace after Israeli forces threatened to use force.
The Israeli army infiltrated the radio frequencies of the control tower at Beirut International Airport on Saturday and threatened to target an Iranian civilian aircraft if it attempted to land, according to sources from Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Works and Transport.
Israeli media later reported that the plane had turned back.
The sources reportedly confirmed Lebanese Transport Minister Ali Hamieh instructed the Iranian plane to avoid entering Lebanese airspace and to refrain from landing at Rafic Hariri International Airport after Israeli forces threatened to use force.
Earlier, Israeli military spokesperson Daniel Hagari warned that the Israeli army would not permit the transfer of weapons to Hezbollah, including through Beirut International Airport.
“We are aware of Iranian arms transfers to Hezbollah, and we will take action to prevent them,” Hagari said.
However, Hamieh dismissed these claims in televised remarks, refuting the Israeli allegations.
He emphasized that Beirut International Airport is “strictly civilian” and clarified that any military aircraft activity at the airport is subject to the exclusive approval of the Lebanese army.
Ongoing Aggression
The Israeli army claimed on Saturday that it assassinated Hezbollah’s Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah when it launched a massive airstrike targeting a residential area in the southern suburbs of Beirut on Friday.

At least 720 people have been killed and thousands were wounded in the ongoing Israeli aggression across Lebanon, according to the country’s health ministry.
Israeli media has reported explosions in Tel Aviv and other areas of central Israel, while five rocket barrages were launched from southern Lebanon toward Israeli positions in the Galilee.
In response, the Israeli military bombed the Bekaa region in eastern Lebanon and the southern suburbs of Beirut.
The Israeli army confirmed monitoring five rockets fired from Lebanon, one of which landed in an open area in central Israel.
Israeli Channel 12 reported that 16 rockets were fired from Lebanon towards the Galilee, with one landing in the sea near Nahariya.
Sirens were activated in more than 100 locations across the Galilee and Marj Ibn Amer, as reported by the Walla news site.

The Israeli Home Front Command confirmed that sirens were sounding in the Upper and Central Galilee, northern Golan Heights, and Safed areas, while Israeli radio mentioned continuous sirens in Haifa Bay, Wadi Ara, and northern West Bank settlements.
Hezbollah later claimed responsibility for bombing the Kabri settlement with a barrage of Fadi-1 missiles and targeting the Israeli Ramat David air base near Haifa with Fadi-3 missiles.
The group stated that the attack was in solidarity with the Palestinian people in Gaza and in response to Israel’s ongoing military operations in Lebanon.
The Fadi missiles, used by Hezbollah for the first time in the current conflict, are area-effect weapons that target wide zones rather than specific points.
AL-MAYADEEN: Lebanon: Medium-range missiles were fired from Lebanon towards northern occupied Palestine.
This was Hezbollah’s first operation following an intense night of Israeli airstrikes, during which over 40 raids hit various areas, marking the most significant attack since the 2006 war. The Israeli army claimed to have targeted Hezbollah ammunition production sites, but Hezbollah denied this.
Meanwhile, Israeli forces continued attacks on Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley.
Israeli warplanes also carried out multiple raids on buildings in Beirut’s southern suburbs, resulting in large fires and severe destruction.
Although the exact number of casualties was unclear, reports indicated at least eight deaths, according to the Lebanese News Agency.
Additional raids targeted the towns of Adloun, Zrarieh, and Kafour in southern Lebanon, as well as areas in Mount Lebanon and the central Bekaa Valley.
In eastern Lebanon, towns in the Baalbek district were hit with multiple Israeli airstrikes, and more than 20 towns across southern Lebanon were bombarded after midnight.
In response, Lebanon’s Ministry of Health called on hospitals outside the affected zones to prepare to receive casualties.
Since Monday, Israel has conducted the most intense attack on Lebanon in years, with 726 reported deaths and 2,173 injuries by Friday morning.
“This is an expression of Israel’s insistence on committing genocide against Palestinians in the enclave.”
Israel has destroyed hundreds of dunams of agricultural land, depriving Palestinians in the northern Gaza Strip of agricultural land and resources vital to survival, according to the Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor.
“This destruction is part of a larger Israeli plan that dates back to last October,” Euro-Med said in a report published” on September 26.” Under this plan, Israeli forces have worked to eliminate almost 80% of the agricultural land in the Gaza Strip from use by Palestinians.”
Israel has done this either “by isolating it in preparation for its forcible annexation to the so-called ‘buffer zone’ or by bulldozing or destroying it by other means, such as bombardment—all of which are in violation of international law.”
“This is an expression of Israel’s insistence on committing genocide against Palestinians in the enclave,” the Geneva-based rights group said.
The Euro-Med field team in Gaza said that in the early hours of Tuesday, September 25, Israeli forces stormed the area of Al-Shimaa in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza, accompanied by military bulldozers.
They began their bulldozing operations, destroying “more than 500 dunums of newly replanted agricultural land, which was supposed to sustain the needs of the people living in northern Gaza, who are subject to an arbitrary siege and systematic starvation by Israel.”
‘Security Zone’
Yousef Saqr Abu Rabie, a 24-year-old farmer in Beit Lahia, told Euro-Med that even though his land is outside of the “security zone” established by Israel at the start of the war, it was bulldozed.
His now-bulldozed crops had been bearing fruit that the people of northern Gaza were depending on, given Israel’s restrictions on the entry of fruits and vegetables into the northern Gazan markets, said Euro-Med.

Israeli forces have bulldozed or destroyed all agricultural lands along the “security fence” separating the eastern and northern Gaza Strip “at a depth of nearly two kilometres, removing approximately 96 square kilometres” of land.
This, said the rights group, was “in a clear attempt to annex them to its ‘buffer zone’, in violation of international law.”
An Israeli “buffer” road and zone splitting Gaza City through its centre, meanwhile, and the creation of Israel’s Netzarim axis to keep sections of the Strip separate, “have resulted in the destruction of approximately three square kilometres of agricultural lands.”
“Thus, the agricultural lands destroyed by Israel to enable the creation of its ‘buffer’ areas, specifically, represent about 27.5% of the Gaza Strip,” the report said.
Land ‘Off Limits’ to Farmers
It also noted that the Israeli army has worked to destroy almost all buildings and facilities on the vast majority of these lands, which are now within the “buffer zone” and are off-limits to residents and farmers.
“These lands represented the majority of agricultural land in the Gaza Strip and included hundreds of farms built on hundreds of dunams that were planted with vegetables and fruits, as well as hundreds of farms raising poultry and livestock.”
Outside of this “buffer zone”, additional land has also been destroyed by Israeli incursions or aerial and artillery bombardment, resulting in the destruction of at least 34 square kilometres of agricultural land and the streets that service it, said Euro-Med.
“This brings the total percentage of destroyed land in the Gaza Strip to 36.9%, or more than 75% of the Strip’s area designated for agriculture,” the report stated.
In addition to Israel’s destruction of thousands of farms, greenhouses, water wells, tanks, and stores housing agricultural equipment, Euro-Med Monitor field teams recorded “the intentional killing of numerous farmers while these individuals were working or attempting to access their lands.”
Fishermen Killed
Since Israel’s attack on Gaza last October, the Israeli army “has also killed several fishermen and destroyed the majority of fishing boats and fishing ports” in the enclave.
“These actions have negatively impacted the availability of healthy food for over 2.2 million Palestinians living in the Strip, and the repercussions of this are expected to last for years after the withdrawal of the Israeli military.”
Farmers are also finding it difficult or impossible to access areas that have been spared from the Israeli bombing, due to the ongoing bombardment and ground incursions into numerous areas.
“Additionally, the lack of electricity, destruction of water wells, and scarcity of fuel all make it difficult to cultivate new areas and irrigate them with water,” said the report.
This, it added, occurs while aid supplies are being blocked from reaching residents and displaced people in the enclave by Israeli forces.
Soil, Air, Water Quality
The ongoing Israeli military assaults “have detrimental effects” on soil, air, water quality, agricultural land, public health, and the environment.
“These effects compound over time, and at some point, may result in startling increases in the death rate,” the report noted.
The rights group emphasized that the “internationally recognised human right to food, water, and sanitation is a basic right that protects population health and dignity.”
“It can only be realised if the international community puts an end to Israel’s crime of genocide; removes the illegal blockade on the Gaza Strip; and salvages what remains of the besieged enclave, which is currently uninhabitable on all fronts,” Euro-Med stressed.
“Delays will cause the Strip to deteriorate further, cost more civilian lives, and heavily affect people’s health outcomes,” it added.
According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, 41,534 Palestinians have been killed, and 96,092 wounded in Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza starting on October 7.
Moreover, at least 11,000 people are unaccounted for, presumed dead under the rubble of their homes throughout the Strip.
Displaced communities “live in overcrowded shelters and lack cleaning supplies, hygiene kits and diapers, as well as clothes and infant formula for babies.” Stephane Dujarric
Nearly 90 percent of coordinated humanitarian aid movements between northern and southern Gaza have been either denied or impeded this month by Israel, according to the United Nations.
“Humanitarian aid movements in Gaza continue to face significant access constraints,” UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric told a press briefing on Friday. “Nearly 90 percent of coordinated humanitarian response movements between northern and southern Gaza so far in September have been either denied or impeded.”
He said displaced Palestinians continue to live “in abysmal conditions,” which are expected to further deteriorate in the forthcoming cold and rainy winter weather.
“That would be the second winter that civilians in Gaza have to face” in those conditions, Dujarric noted.
Assessments recently conducted in two collective shelters in Deir al Balah and Khan Younis found that at both sites, displaced communities “live in overcrowded shelters and lack cleaning supplies, hygiene kits and diapers, as well as clothes and infant formula for babies.”
West Bank
He also highlighted the situation in the occupied West Bank, saying that the number of “internal movement obstacles” deployed by Israeli forces has increased by more than 20 percent since June of last year.
“The cumulative impact of obstruction to movement has been devastating, further entrenching the fragmentation in the West Bank, disrupting access to livelihoods and services for thousands of Palestinians, which is aggravating the already difficult conditions in which many live,” Dujarric emphasized.

In just one week — between 17 and 23 September — 11 Palestinians were killed, including two children, he said, adding that these “included exchanges of fire and an airstrike.”
Meanwhile, health facilities in the West Bank are also impacted by Israel’s actions.
Citing the WHO (World Health Organization), Dujarric said that from October 7 of last year to July 30 of this year, 527 attacks — including obstruction of access, use of force, detention and militarized searches — were reported on healthcare facilities in the region.
“These have impacted 54 healthcare facilities, including 20 mobile clinics, in addition to 365 ambulances,” said the spokesperson.
Lebanon
On the Lebanese front, Dujarric said the “recent escalation in the country is nothing short of catastrophic, with the surge in violence extending to previously unaffected areas.”
This has led to “the widespread destruction” of homes and infrastructure across Lebanon.
He pointed out that in less than a week, “at least 700 human lives have been lost, thousands have been injured, and nearly 120,000 people have been displaced, with these numbers continuing to rise as we speak,” due to Israel’s attacks on the country.
He said the main needs of those affected “include safe shelters, core relief items, healthcare, cash assistance and protection services.”
In total, since October of 2023, more than 1,500 civilians have been killed in Lebanon and 200,000 people have been forced to flee their homes, according to Dujarric.
