The PRCS condemned “the deliberate targeting of its crews by the Israeli occupation forces.”
Israeli occupation forces opened fire on an ambulance, injuring six paramedics, as they tried to evacuate injured Palestinians in the Balata refugee camp in Nablus in the occupied West Bank.
“The occupation forces opened heavy fire at one of the association’s ambulances, wounding all the crew before they were able to hide inside a house,” the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said in a statement on Tuesday.
The PRCS condemned “the deliberate targeting of its crews by the Israeli occupation forces.”
Israeli forces also held up the ambulances for more than an hour, preventing them from transporting the injured crew to the hospital.

Later, the soldiers “fired live bullets directly at another ambulance at the entrance to Balata camp, which led to the injury of two members of the ambulance crew, while they were trying to enter to transport an injured person” from inside the camp.
Several Detained
Israeli occupation forces also detained at least 12 Palestinians from across the West Bank, including the alleged father and brothers of one of the shooters involved in the operation in Tel Aviv on Tuesday.
Rashid Awida Misk and his two sons Yahya and Ibrahim were detained during a raid on their home in Hebron (Al Khalil). They were also severely beaten, the official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.
At least six Israelis were shot and killed when two Palestinians opened fire in the centre of the city. Palestinian media identified them as Mohammed Rashid Misk and Ahmed Al-Haymouni.
The home of citizen Abdul Fattah Al-Haimouni was also raided, on the pretext that his son Ahmed participated in the shooting operation.
The occupation forces conducted two separate raids in the town of Halhul, north of Hebron and Al-Arroub camp, north of the city, resulting in the detention of two people.
The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) and the Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission reported in a joint statement that the total number of detentions since October 7, 2023, has exceeded 11,000.
Military Checkpoints
Meanwhile, the occupation forces also stormed the town of al-Samu, south of Hebron, and searched several homes owned by the al-Rawashdeh and al-Hawamdeh families.

The occupation forces set up several military checkpoints at the entrances to Hebron, its towns, villages, and camps, and closed several main and secondary roads with iron gates, cement blocks, and earthen mounds, reported WAFA.
They also increased security around Ramallah, Al-Bireh, Jerusalem, Nablus, Hebron, Jericho and Tubas, as well as closing the Ein Siniya and Atara checkpoints, and continued to close the northern entrance to the city of Al-Bireh.
Settler Attack
Illegal Jewish settlers on Wednesday attacked Palestinian olive pickers in the town of Hawara, south of Nablus.
Sources in the Hawara Municipality told WAFA that said that a group of settlers, headed by the guard of the illegal colony of Yitzhar, attacked and assaulted farmers who were picking olives in the Lahf area. Two Palestinians were injured in the attack.
The settlers also seized the olive-picking equipment and forced the Palestinians to leave their land.
At least 51 Palestinians have been killed and 165 injured in five massacres committed by the Israeli army in Gaza in the past 24 hours, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health.
Scores were killed during an Israeli incursion into the areas of Qizan Al-Najjar, Al-Manara and Ma’anin in the Khan Younis Governorate early on Wednesday morning, the Ministry said.
Several “victims are still under the rubble and in the streets, with ambulance and civil defense teams unable to reach them.”
Witnesses told the Anadolu news agency that the Israeli army carried out a sudden dawn incursion into eastern Khan Younis, opening direct fire at Palestinian homes, killing at least 40 Palestinians.

Anadolu cited a medical source at the Gaza European Hospital as saying 32 killed Palestinians were brought to the hospital as a result of the Israeli shelling in areas in the eastern part of Khan Younis.
Another source at the Nasser Medical Complex told Anadolu that eight victims had been recovered from under the rubble of homes that were hit. Rescue efforts continued for others who were still missing.
Israeli forces prevented rescue teams and ambulances from reaching the struck homes, as hundreds fled, the report added.
Dozens of homes, agricultural lands and infrastructure were severely damaged in the wake of the attack, after which the army withdrew from the area.
Cemetery, Homes Targeted

The Gaza Civil Defense said five more Palestinians were killed in an Israeli airstrike on the Al-Amal Orphanage which also shelters displaced people in central Gaza City.
The Civil Defense also said eight Palestinians were killed in an Israeli airstrike on the home of the Ghattas family in the Shejaiya neighborhood in eastern Gaza City.
On Wednesday afternoon, four Palestinians were killed and others injured after an Israeli military drone bombed a group of civilians in the Al-Sawarah area, west of Al-Nuseirat camp in the central Gaza Strip, the Palestinian WAFA news agency reported.

Also on Wednesday, an Israeli drone struck the Al-Sawwarah cemetery in central Gaza, resulting in casualties, reported the Quds News Network (QNN).
Staggering Death Toll
Israel continues to defy a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire and has faced international condemnation amid its continued brutal offensive on Gaza.
According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, 41,689 Palestinians have been killed, and 96,625 wounded in Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza starting on October 7, 2023.

Moreover, at least 11,000 people are unaccounted for, presumed dead under the rubble of their homes throughout the Strip.
Israel says that 1,200 soldiers and civilians were killed during the Al-Aqsa Flood Operation on October 7. Israeli media published reports suggesting that many Israelis were killed on that day by ‘friendly fire’.
Palestinian and international organizations say that the majority of those killed and wounded are women and children.
Famine and Displacement
The Israeli war has resulted in an acute famine, mostly in northern Gaza, resulting in the death of many Palestinians, mostly children.
The Israeli aggression has also resulted in the forceful displacement of nearly two million people from all over the Gaza Strip, with the vast majority of the displaced forced into the densely crowded southern city of Rafah near the border with Egypt – in what has become Palestine’s largest mass exodus since the 1948 Nakba.
Later in the war, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians began moving from the south to central Gaza in a constant search for safety.
“We could lower the ratings on Israel in the next 24 months if the military conflicts become a bigger-than-anticipated detriment to Israel’s economic growth, fiscal position, and balance of payments.”
Global credit ratings agency Standard & Poor’s (S&P) downgraded Israel’s long-term rating from ‘A+’ to ‘A’ on Tuesday amid an escalating conflict with the Hezbollah movement in Lebanon.
Following a similar move by Moody’s last week, the rating agency cited risks to Israel’s economy and public finances from the ongoing warfare with Hezbollah and a possible conflict with Iran.
“We now consider that military activity in Gaza and an upsurge in fighting across Israel’s northern border — including a ground incursion into Lebanon — could persist into 2025, with risks of retaliation against Israel,” S&P said. “The latter in particular has been highlighted by a missile attack on Israel by Iran at the beginning of October.”
‘Risk of Retaliatory Attacks’
The agency’s decision was originally scheduled for November 8 but was moved up “due to the significant rise in Israel’s geopolitical and security risks,” S&P said.

“We could lower the ratings on Israel in the next 24 months if the military conflicts become a bigger-than-anticipated detriment to Israel’s economic growth, fiscal position, and balance of payments,” said the agency.
“This could be the case, for example, if the ongoing conflicts continue to spread, raising the risks of retaliatory attacks against Israel, or if the prospect of a wider regional war directly involving Iran increases.”
Moody’s Rating
On Friday, Moody’s credit rating agency slashed Israel’s credit rating by two levels, from ‘A2’ to ‘Baa1,’ with a negative outlook.
The decision was issued before Iran fired around 180 ballistic missiles at Israel amid heightened tensions between the two countries.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said the attack was in response to the assassinations of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and IRGC commander Abbas Nilforoshan.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Iran made a “big mistake” with its missile attack and “will pay for it.”
Ongoing Genocide
Flouting a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire, Israel has faced international condemnation amid its continued brutal offensive on Gaza.
Currently on trial before the International Court of Justice for genocide against Palestinians, Israel has been waging a devastating war on Gaza since October 7.
Lebanon Killings
The conflict has spread to Lebanon, with the Israeli army launching massive airstrikes on parts of Lebanon, killing more than 1,073 people and injuring over 2,950 others since Sept. 23, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry.
Israel has occupied parts of Lebanon for decades and has only left the country in 2000, following stiff Lebanese resistance under Hezbollah’s leadership.
Israel attempted to re-occupy Lebanon in 2006 but failed in what Lebanon considers a major victory against Israel.
Israel, however, continues to occupy parts of Lebanon, namely the Sheeba Farms region.
Hezbollah has vowed to recover every inch of Lebanon that has been occupied by Israel contrary to international law.
The international community has warned that Israeli attacks in Lebanon could escalate the Gaza conflict into a wider regional war.
The Israeli Foreign Minister banned the UN Secretary-General from entering Israel stressing that he “does not deserve to step foot on Israeli soil”.
Israel officially declared on Wednesday the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres as ‘persona non grata’, banning him from entering Israel, Israeli media reported.
The announcement came with a post on X by Israel’s Foreign Minister Israel Katz. Katz said the ban is due to Guterres’s failure to “unequivocally condemn” Iran’s missile attack on Israel.
Today, I have declared UN Secretary-General @antonioguterres persona non grata in Israel and banned him from entering the country.
Anyone who cannot unequivocally condemn Iran's heinous attack on Israel, as almost every country in the world has done, does not deserve to step…
“Anyone who cannot unequivocally condemn Iran’s heinous attack on Israel, as almost every country in the world has done, does not deserve to step foot on Israeli soil,” Katz wrote.
“This is a Secretary-General who has yet to denounce the massacre” of October 7, Katz also said.
“A Secretary-General who gives backing to terrorists, rapists, and murderers from Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, and now Iran—the mothership of global terror—will be remembered as a stain on the history of the UN,” the minister concluded.
‘Antisemitic Swamp’
This was not the first time an Israeli official has attacked the UN and its agencies, nor is Katz the only one to do so, since a number of Israeli officials have accused the organization of being biased against Israel.
In his address to the UN General Assembly on September 27, for example, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu labeled the world organization as an “antisemitic swamp” and “anti-Israel flat earth society”.
Israeli officials have repeatedly demanded that Guterres resign, especially after the UN Secretary-Genearl declared that the Al-Aqsa Flood operation “did not happen in a vacuum” and that “the Palestinian people have been subjected to 56 years of suffocating occupation.”
Outgoing Israeli ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, has also harshly criticized the UN, stating that its headquarters in New York should be “wiped off the face of the earth” Israeli media reported.

“The UN building should be closed and wiped off from the face of the earth,” Erdan told Israeli daily Maariv in an interview published on August 20, according to the Anadolu news agency.
“This building, which may look nice from the outside, is actually twisted and distorted,” said Erdan.
The Times of Israel also reported that in an upcoming interview with i24News, Erdan said: “I’m coming out with a feeling of satisfaction on one hand, of my battle and work here, but on the other hand with great distress and frustration with the fact that this building, which may look nice from the outside, is actually twisted and distorted.”

Conservative figures show that more than 6,000 women and 11,000 children were killed in Gaza by the Israeli military over the past 12 months, says Oxfam.
More women and children have been killed in the Gaza Strip by the Israeli military over the past year than in the equivalent period of any other conflict over the past two decades, according to a new analysis by Oxfam.
Conservative figures show that more than 6,000 women and 11,000 children were killed in Gaza by the Israeli military over the past 12 months, the aid organization said in a press statement. It said data from 2004 to 2021 on direct conflict deaths from the Small Arms Survey, estimates that the highest number of women killed in a single year was over 2,600 in Iraq in 2016.
“These staggering figures are both appalling and heartbreaking,” Sally Abi Khalil, Oxfam’s Middle East and North Africa Director said.
She emphasized that “Influential actors in the international community have not only failed to hold Israel to account, they are also complicit in the atrocities by continuing to unconditionally supply it with arms.”
“It will take generations to recover from the devastating impacts of this war and there is still no ceasefire in sight,” she added.
Strikes ‘Once Every Three Hours’
According to Oxfam, a report by the organization Every Casualty Counts examined information on over 11,000 children killed across the first 2.5 years of the Syria conflict, an average of over 4,700 deaths a year.
UN reports on Children and Armed Conflict over the last 18 years show that no other conflicts killed a higher number of children in one year.
?Every three hours on average, Israeli explosive weapons hit homes, shelters, hospitals, schools and aid distribution points in Gaza. It's been this way for a year. We must secure a #CeasefireNOW
Oxfam said separate data from Action on Armed Violence up to September 23 “shows that Israel hit civilian infrastructure across Gaza with explosive weapons once every three hours on average since the war began.”
“Other than the six-day humanitarian pause last November, there were just two days in the entire year without bombardment,” it added.
Records, which are not comprehensive, said Oxfam, show that Israeli explosive weapons hit on average:
Homes every four hours
Tents and temporary shelters every 17 hours
Schools and hospitals every four days
Aid distribution points and warehouses every 15 days
Violations of IHL
“Throughout the last year, Israel has committed serious violations of international humanitarian law at a level which may rise to the level of crimes against humanity,” stressed Oxfam.
This includes a level of destruction observed which is “indicative of Israel’s use of disproportionate force in relation to military objectives and a failure to discriminate between military targets and the civilian population.”
The Israeli military “has relentlessly targeted infrastructure indispensable to civilian survival. Civilians have been forcibly displaced dozens of times to so-called ‘safe zones’ that fail to meet humanitarian obligations and have also been regularly bombed or attacked.”
Oxfam said the UN Children and Armed Conflict reports show the number of Palestinian children killed by conflict in Gaza and the West Bank.
“Over the last year, more than five times more children were killed in Gaza than between 2005 to 2022 in total,” the organization stated.
Scores Unidentified, Missing
The record number of women and children killed in Gaza does not include those among nearly 20,000 people who are either unidentified, missing or entombed beneath rubble.
“The past year has had a devastating impact with women bearing a double burden. Many have suddenly become the heads of their households, navigating survival and care in the midst of destruction,” said Dr Umaiyeh Khammash, director of Oxfam partner, Juzoor.
Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers have faced immense difficulties, including from the collapse in healthcare services, Khammash added.
“For children, the trauma is equally profound,” he said. “Over 25,000 children have either lost a parent or become orphans, leaving them in deep emotional distress. Most children are grappling with anxiety and severe physical injuries, with many having lost limbs.”
West Bank
In the occupied West Bank, the unprecedented escalation and levels of violence are raising concerns that serious violations of international law and war crimes are being committed, Oxfam noted.
Since last October, more than 680 Palestinians have been killed either by Israeli settlers or military violence, the organization said.
More than a thousand settler attacks on Palestinians have been recorded, with direct attacks on agricultural land resulting in the destruction of crops, irrigation systems and greenhouses, including internationally-funded and Oxfam-supported projects.
The Israeli military “has forced the demolition of more than 2,000 Palestinian homes with massive damage to public infrastructure including roads.”
Calling for an immediate ceasefire, Oxfam said that in light of the recent International Court of Justice advisory opinion “and in order to avoid complicity, third states must do everything in their power to bring an immediate end to the illegal Israeli occupation, the removal of Israeli settlements in the West Bank and reparations paid, including restitution, rehabilitation, and compensation for affected communities.”
After it caught the world by surprise with the missile attack on Israel, Iran says it is a legitimate response to Israeli crimes including the assassinations of Haniyeh and Nasrallah.
The Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian defended his country’s “legitimate self-defense rights” following the missile strikes on Israel on Tuesday, stressing that they were a “decisive response” to Israel’s “aggression”.
Pezeshkian went on to say in a statement published on X that the missile attacks were “in defense of the interests and citizens of Iran.”
“Let Netanyahu know that Iran is not a belligerent, but it stands firmly against any threat. This is only a corner of our power,” the Iranian president said according to the statement.
“Do not enter into a conflict with Iran,” he warned.
Self-Defense
The Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on his part, stated that Iran exercised “self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter, targeting solely military & security sites in charge of genocide in Gaza and Lebanon.”
Araghchi said that Iran exercised its right to self-defense after a long period of restraint.
“We did so after exercising tremendous restraint for almost two months, to give space for a ceasefire in Gaza,” he stressed.
?ABU OBEIDA:
We congratulate the Iranian response that covered the entire geography of occupied Palestine and dealt a strong blow to the criminal occupation that thought that its rampage in the region and its aggression against its people could pass without punishment.
The Iranian foreign minister announced that the Iranian missile attacks are concluded, “unless Israeli regime decides to invite further retaliation.”
He warned that in the case of Israeli retaliation then Tehran’s response would be “stronger and more powerful.”
“Israel’s enablers now have a heightened responsibility to rein in the warmongers in Tel Aviv instead of getting involved in their folly,” he ended.
In parallel, Iran’s mission to the United Nations said in a statement that the missile attack was a “legal, rational, and legitimate” response to the “terrorist acts” of Israel.
Bitterness of Restraint
Abdolrahim Mousavi, Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Republic of Iran Army reiterated the foreign minister’s statement regarding the restraint Iran has upheld for a long time.
“We have endured the bitterness of restraint for a while, but we have seen that this is not a suitable option,” he stated.
He warned Israel in case of retaliation of severe consequences.
“If the Zionists make additional mistakes, we will respond more severely, and in that case, we may decide to destroy their infrastructure,” he warned.
“The United States must receive an important message before the Zionist regime, that if the Israeli entity continues its evil, it will be completely destroyed,” he added.
True Promise 2
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that the True Promise 2 operation, codenamed ‘Ya Rasul Allah’ aimed to target with 200 missiles “several military bases in occupied Palestine.”
Major General Mohammed Bagheri, the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, advised Israel of restraint.
“If the Zionist regime is not restrained and acts against Iran, we will target all its infrastructure,” he warned.
Bagheri revealed that Iran has endured “a difficult period of restraint” following the assassination of the head of the political bureau of the Palestinian Resistance Movement Hamas, in Tehran Ismail Haniyeh after repeated requests from the United States and Europe to allow for a ceasefire in Gaza.
“However, after the martyrdom of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and General Nilforoushan, the situation became unbearable,” he stated.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces said in a statement that the Iranian missile attacks on Israel came as a response to its violation of the sovereignty of Iranian soil and its crimes in Palestine and Lebanon and the assassinations of Palestinian leader Haniyeh and Lebanese Hezbollah leader Hasan Nasrallah and others.
“The child-killing Zionist regime, its international and regional supporters, especially its main backer, the illegitimate and rootless entity, the criminal United States, must understand that while the Islamic Republic of Iran has not initiated any war in the past 45 years, and will not do so, it will firmly and powerfully defend its legitimate rights against any aggression or violation,” the statement read.
“It will make any malicious aggressor, at any level, regret their actions,” the statement added while stressing the legitimate right of Iran to the missile attack.
The Armed Forces warned Israel that in the case of response, Tel Aviv “should expect the widespread and comprehensive destruction of its infrastructure within the occupied Palestinian lands.”

The Armed Forces statement warned as well all countries that support the Jewish state including the US of any direct intervention against Iran, stating that “their centers and interests across the region will also face a powerful and regret-inducing response from the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
Civil Aviation on Halt
In conjunction with these developments, the spokesperson of the Iranian Civil Aviation Organization, Jafar Yazerlu, announced “that all flights in the country have been canceled until 10:00 a.m. (0630GMT) tomorrow for flight safety reasons,” Anadolu reported.
“Due to the situation in the region and missile attacks, all flights in the country have been canceled until 10:00 a.m. tomorrow for flight safety,” he said as reported by Iran’s official news agency (IRNA).
As Israel woke up to the post-Iranian response reality, it found itself facing Hezbollah and Ansarallah rockets, confirming that the ‘Axis of Resistance’ has managed to restore deterrence.
Meanwhile, a Hezbollah ambush killed and wounded a number of Israeli soldiers as soon as they tried to enter Lebanon.
In Gaza, the Israeli army carried out several major massacres, unseen in Gaza in weeks, killing over 40 in Khan Yunis, 3′ in Gaza and more elsewhere.
According to the Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza, 41,689 Palestinians have been killed, and 96,625 wounded in Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza starting on October 7, 2023.

Just as Israeli authorities were responding to a Palestinian attack in central Yaffa, missiles from Iran and rockets from Hezbollah began falling on all regions in Israel.
Within a short period of time, the military spokesman for the Palestinian movement Hamas issued a statement congratulating Iran on its response to Israel’s assassination of top Palestinian and Lebanese leaders Ismail Haniyeh and Hassan Nasrallah.
“The Iranian response that covered the entire geography of occupied Palestine (..) dealt a strong blow to the criminal occupation that thought that its rampage in the region and its aggression against its people could pass without punishment,” Abu Obeida said.
The masked Palestinian fighter and spokesman said that the Iranian retaliation was “an exceptional day in the history of the struggle.”
“The fires of the nation’s resistance crossed in the skies of Palestine, and Tel Aviv was exposed to the strikes of the fighters from Yemen, Lebanon, Palestine, and Iran. This is a call to all the free people of the nation to make a share in the liberation of Palestine.”
Indeed, the nature of the coordinated attack indicates that a year after the Israeli war and genocide in Gaza, coordination between all members of what is known as the ‘Axis of Resistance’ continues to operate at full capacity.
In fact, the latest coordination exceeds that of military arrangements typically associated with the concept of the ‘unity of the square,’ to a high level of geostrategic coordination as well.
The decisive Iranian response, and the interpretation of the attacks by various members of the ‘Axis of Resistance’, as expressed in the words of Abu Obeidia suggest that Israel’s enemies have succeeded in restoring deterrence.
The days ahead are likely to be decisive.
Below are the latest statements by the two main Resistance forces in Gaza, and the Lebanese Resistance Movement Hezbollah.

Palestinians carried out an armed operation in the center of Yaffa (Jaffa), killing and wounding a number of people, according to Israeli media.
Initial reports on the number of dead and wounded conflicted. Israel Hayom reported that the death toll had reached eight people. Later, the Israeli authorities reduced the number of dead to six and the number of wounded to 16.
Israel’s Channel 12 reported that there were 10 injured, six of them in critical condition, while Israeli Army Radio said there were four critically injured.
Israeli army radio said that the attackers infiltrated Israel, stabbed a soldier, seized his weapon, and carried out the attack with his weapon.
Regarding the identity of the attackers, Israel’s Channel 13 said that they were from the West Bank city of Al-Khalil. Palestinian media identified them as Mohammed Rashid Misk and Ahmed Al-Haymouni.
Hamas praised what it described as a ‘heroic operation’ in ‘occupied Yaffa’, saying it was “a natural response to the war of extermination and Zionist aggression in Gaza, the West Bank, Jerusalem and Lebanon.”
In Israel’s first reaction, Channel 12 quoted Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich as saying, “I will now demand at the cabinet meeting that the family members of the perpetrators who carried out the heinous attack in Jaffa be transferred to Gaza.”
This is considered the largest operation in Tel Aviv since the second intifada in 2000, Al-Jazeera reported.

The Israeli website Walla reported on Monday that the army had raised its alert against the backdrop of warnings of attacks ahead of the holidays and in light of the pressure exerted on the West Bank.
Aside from the genocide in Gaza, Israel has killed hundreds of Palestinians and arrested thousands in recent months in the West Bank.

The Israeli attacks included deadly raids on the town and refugee camp of Jenin, Nablus, Al-Khalil and other areas.
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, over 700 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank at the hand of the Israeli army and armed Jewish settlers in the last year.
Nearly 11,000 have been arrested.
Additionally, over 150,000 Palestinians have been killed, wounded or missing since the start of the Israeli genocide in Gaza.
The long-anticipated Iranian retaliation to the Israeli assassination of Palestinian leader Ismail Haniyeh and Lebanese leader Hassan Nasrallah was more decisive than expected.
Hundreds of Iranian missiles rained all over Israel on Tuesday, though reportedly aiming for military and strategic targets.
The Iranian missiles, many of which have reached their intended targets, seemed to be concentrated in two major areas: the Tel Aviv-Yaffa region and the Naqab, where many Israeli military bases are situated.
The full impact of the Iranian retaliation is yet to be understood. However, the massive explosions were watched live on television, and eyewitnesses throughout the country have reported to have heard loud booms resulting from Iranian missiles hitting the ground.
Unlike the previous Iranian retaliatory attack on Israel on April 13, the latest Iranian operation seemed to be larger in terms of scope and more precise in its targets.
It was also obvious that the several layers of the anti-missile Israeli defense systems have failed at intercepting a large number of Iranian ballistic missiles.
According to the Israeli army, sirens were activated in nearly 1,500 areas throughout the country.
Initially, Israeli media said that about 100 Iranian missiles were fired toward Israel. The number, however, kept increasing and only one hour after the Iranian attack, the estimated number of missiles had reached nearly 400, according to Israeli media.
The Israeli army has said that the sirens have affected 10 million Israelis throughout the country, meaning that the geographic scope of the Iranian attack covered the entirety of Israel.
Particularly interesting is that sirens were also sounding in the so-called Gaza envelope region, in southern Israel. This means that for the first time, sirens in that area were activated due to rockets or missiles fired from outside Gaza.
Thousands of Iranians rushed to the streets in celebration of the Iranian retaliation, carrying pictures, and posters of Palestinian leader Haniyeh and the recently assassinated leader of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah.
?The Israeli Iron Dome failed to intercept Iranian missiles hitting military bases in Israel. pic.twitter.com/L3VwHcsroc
Both leaders were killed by Israel on July 31 and September 27 respectively. They were among many Palestinian, Lebanese and Iranian leaders and commanders who were killed in Israeli operations in the last few months.
The recent assassination of Nasrallah in particular had revived Israel’s sense of triumphalism, renewing hopes among Israelis that Netanyahu has managed to restore Israel’s so-called deterrence against its enemies.
Despite threats by Israeli leaders and extremist ministers, following the Iranian attack, it has become clear that Netanyahu’s recent victories in Lebanon were short-lived.
Immediately following the attack, US President Joe Biden has reportedly held a meeting with vice president and presidential candidate Kamala Harris from the Situation Room.
US Warning
Israeli army spokesperson Daniel Hagari stated that earlier on Tuesday Washington had informed Israel that it was monitoring Iranian preparations to launch missiles toward the country.
The New York Times, citing Israeli officials, reported that the Iranian attack would likely include both drones and ballistic missiles aimed at Israel.
Similarly, the Wall Street Journal quoted a Pentagon official, saying, “We have observed an increase in readiness and the movement of missile launchers by Iran over the past day.”
NBC News reported that White House and Pentagon officials expect Iran to target military and government sites in Israel, rather than civilian locations. Israeli officials have confirmed that the anticipated attack is likely to target three military air bases and an intelligence headquarters north of Tel Aviv within the next 12 hours.
‘Violent Attacks’
For its part, however, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard issued a statement on Monday, announcing that “in response to the assassination of Martyr Ismail Haniyeh, Martyr Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, and Martyr General Abbas Nilforoushan, we have begun striking important military targets in the occupied Palestinian territories with dozens of rockets.”
“If the zionist regime responds to the operation, it will face violent attacks,” the statement added.
Iran’s mission at the United Nations also issued a statement saying that “Iran’s legal, rational, and legitimate response to the terrorist acts of the Zionist regime—which involved targeting Iranian nationals and interests and infringing upon the national sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran—has been duly carried out.”
“Should the Zionist regime dare to respond or commit further acts of malevolence, a subsequent and crushing response will ensue. Regional states and the Zionists’ supporters are advised to part ways with the regime,” the statement added.
The timing of the operation was also particularly interesting as it took place immediately following several Palestinian operations in Jaffa, resulting in the death of eight Israelis and the wounding of at least ten others, according to Israeli medical sources.
