The latest ambush took place today where Al-Qassam “trapped a mechanized infantry company of the occupation army consisting of 12 military vehicles and a truck loaded with soldiers in a pre-prepared area.”

“Though the Israeli army had claimed to have defeated Hamas in northern Gaza only a few months after the start of the war, the latest incursions indicate that the resistance in those areas remained as stiff as before

‘Charges of Aiding Enemy’ – US Journalist Beaten, Detained in Israel over Iran Report

Grayzone journalist Jeremy Loffredo was detained by Israeli forces. (Photo: video grab)

By Palestine Chronicle Staff

“Israel is detaining and prosecuting an American journalist for doing journalism. Will his media colleagues defend him?”

Israeli forces assaulted and detained five journalists, including American investigative reporter Jeremy Loffredo, who is reportedly being charged with “aiding the enemy” following his report on Iran’s ballistic missile attack on targets in Tel Aviv and other parts of the country.

“Today I was beaten, kidnapped, blindfolded and taken to a military base by the Israeli Occupation Forces, together with 4 other journalists,” Andrey X, a Russian journalist posted on X on Wednesday.

“Two of us were held for 11 hours without charges, my phone was confiscated (stolen), and one of us is still in custody,” he added.

According to the Israeli YNet news, 28-year-old Loffredo a reporter for US-based The Grayzone News “was arrested by police on suspicion of endangering national security after reporting on where missiles landed in the attack launched by Iran earlier this month including in the IDF’s Nevatim Air Base and an intelligence base in central Israel.”

‘Diplomatic Incident’

The paper claimed that Loffredo said, “that attacks on Gaza were launched from the Nevatim base and said that government’s private jet used by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was located there.”

“The charges against him include aiding the enemy during wartime and providing information to the enemy,” the report added.

His arrest “has raised concerns of a potential diplomatic incident between Israel and the U.S. because of his status as a foreign journalist.”

US embassy representatives attended “a hearing on the request of the police to extend his detention.”

No Attempt to ‘Hide Anything’

The paper quotes Loffredo’s attorney as saying that he “published the information openly and fully, without attempting to hide anything. If this information constitutes aiding the enemy, many other journalists in Israel, including Israeli reporters, should also be arrested.”

“A spy would not have acted so publicly and transparently,” Leah Tsemel added.

Max Blumenthal, the editor of the Grayzone, posted on X: “I’ve just learned that @loffredojeremy was among the journalists arrested by the Israeli military and is still in jail. His phone has been confiscated. That is all I’m able to say for now.”

Fellow Grayzone journalist, Aaron Maté, said “Israel is detaining and prosecuting an American journalist for doing journalism.”

“Will his media colleagues defend him?” he asked on X.

Loffredo’s arrest reportedly follows his report published by The Grayzone on the extensive damage to Israeli military bases struck by Iran in its ballistic missile attack on October 1.

According to a Press TV report, Loffredo, who is based in New York City, traveled to Israel to document “several impact sites that had not been reported by Israeli authorities, including areas near the Mossad headquarters in Tel Aviv.”

‘Suspicious Behavior’ – US-Born Israeli ‘Journalist’ Detained in Lebanon

By Palestine Chronicle Staff

His suspicious behavior reportedly led to his arrest in the Dahieh district of Beirut.

An Israeli citizen who holds a British passport was arrested in Lebanon after entering the country as “an investigative journalist” and subsequently deported to the United States following American pressure, according to reports.

Joshua (Shoki) Tartakovsky, “a former ultra-Orthodox resident of Jerusalem”, the Israeli YNet News reported, was arrested in Beirut on Tuesday “after entering Lebanon recently saying he is an investigative journalist.”

“His behavior aroused suspicion among the Lebanese authorities, and when he was caught, they discovered he had an Israeli passport,” the report stated, adding that according to his social media accounts, it was not his first visit to Beirut.

Citing the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar and Israeli officials, the Israeli Haaretz newspaper reported that the 42-year-old “is also listed as American on several websites that he has contributed work to.”

YNet cited Al-Akhbar as reporting that he was an Israeli “born in the United States who works for a weekly publication.”

The report further said that he had been arrested in the Dahieh district, two weeks after his arrival in Beirut and that he had entered the country with other journalists, “but his suspicious behavior led to his arrest.”

Illegal Entry

It is illegal for Israelis to enter Lebanon under both Israeli and Lebanese law.

Haaretz said Tartakovsky, “who describes himself as an independent journalist, is a graduate of Brown University in Rhode Island and the London School of Economics, according to his author page on the Vision Magazine website.”

His former places of employment include the International Defense and Security Team at Transparency International in London, the Global Public Policy Institute in Berlin and the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs in Israel.

Served in Israeli Army

Haaretz said that in an article Tartakovsky “wrote for his student newspaper in 2014, he identified himself as a ‘Brown alum who also served in the Israeli Occupation Forces’” But at the same time also a “supporter of Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions against Israel.”

YNet said his friends described him as a “peculiar character” often shifting his political stances.

“One noted his frequent shifts in political stance, characterizing him as someone who could be far-right one day and far-left the next,” the report said.

Another reportedly said “I’d be surprised if he has a journalist’s credentials; he was writing blogs and giving interviews on TV in various countries. He’s a polyglot.”

There are at least four profiles listed under Tartakovsky’s name on X.

Hezbollah meanwhile said it successfully thwarted multiple infiltration attempts by Israeli forces at various points in the south since early on Tuesday.

The Israeli military announced the death of at least one soldier in southern Lebanon on Thursday, confirming that the reservist was the 12th soldier killed in the ground offensive against Lebanon, according to Israeli media.

Citing the Israeli military, the Times of Israel said the sergeant major was of the Alon Brigade’s 5030th Batallion, while another reserve soldier of the same unit was injured in the clashes.

‘Causing Casualties’ – Hezbollah Targets Israeli Soldiers, Fires Rockets at Haifa and Galilee

On Wednesday, Israeli media reported a total of 38 injuries among soldiers in 24 hours, al-Mayadeen reported.

Hezbollah meanwhile said it successfully thwarted multiple infiltration attempts by Israeli forces at various points in the south since early on Tuesday.

On Thursday morning, the movement said it targeted an Israeli tank with guided missiles as it advanced toward Ras al-Naqoura, resulting in casualties. It later targeted soldiers attempting to rescue wounded soldiers from the site.

UN Troops Targeted

Israeli forces also fired at the headquarters of the UN Interim Force (UNIFIL) in Naqoura where Italian troops are stationed, prompting Rome to summon the Israeli ambassador.

“UNIFIL’s Naqoura headquarters and nearby positions have been repeatedly hit,” the UN mission said in a statement.

“This morning, two peacekeepers were injured after an IDF Merkava tank fired its weapon toward an observation tower at UNIFIL’s headquarters in Naqoura, directly hitting it and causing them to fall.”

“We remind the IDF and all actors of their obligations to ensure the safety and security of UN personnel and property and to respect the inviolability of UN premises at all times,” the UN mission said.

Soldiers Vow to Stop Fighting

Meanwhile, more than 100 Israeli soldiers have threatened to stop serving in the army unless the government works to secure a ceasefire and the release of captives in Gaza.

Signatories of the letter, which was signed by 130 soldiers and addressed to Israeli Cabinet ministers and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) chief of staff, included reservists and draftees from various military units, such as the Armored Corps, Artillery Corps, Home Front Command, air force, and navy.

‘Red Line Crossed’ – 130 Israeli Soldiers Vow to Stop Serving until Ceasefire Deal is Secured

“It is now clear that continuing the war in Gaza does not only delay the hostages’ return from captivity but also endangers their lives: Many hostages have been killed by IDF strikes, many more than those who have been rescued in military operations to save them,” the letter read, according to a Haaretz report on Wednesday.

It continued: “We, who serve and have served with dedication and while risking are lives, hereby announce that if the government does not immediately change course and work toward a deal to bring the hostages back home, we will not be able to continue serving.

The soldiers added, “For some of us, the red line has been crossed already; for others, it is rapidly approaching: the day is approaching when we will, with broken hearts, stop reporting for duty.”

Hezbollah Showing ‘Organization’ – Russia

Meanwhile, the Russian Foreign Ministry has said that Hezbollah has not lost its chain of command despite Israeli attacks on Lebanon.

“According to our assessments, Hezbollah, including the military wing, has not lost its chain of command and is demonstrating organization,” Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, told reporters on Wednesday.

‘Intolerable’ – Israel Attacks UN Peacekeepers in Lebanon, Italy Summons Ambassador

In response, the Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto summoned the Israeli ambassador to Italy over the incidents at UNIFIL bases.

Two UN peacekeepers were injured on Thursday after Israeli forces fired at the headquarters of the UN Interim Force (UNIFIL) in south Lebanon where Italian troops are stationed, prompting Rome to summon the Israeli ambassador.

‘Safety a Priority’

In response, the Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto summoned the Israeli ambassador to Italy, the Italian Ansa news agency reported, over the incidents at UNIFIL bases where Italian soldiers operate.

“These incidents are intolerable and must be carefully, decisively avoided,” Crosetto reportedly said. “For this reasons, I protested to my Israeli counterpart and to the Israeli ambassador to Italy.”

The agency quoted Crosetto as saying he sent “a formal communication to the United Nations to reiterate the unacceptability of what is happening in Southern Lebanon and to ensure Italy’s full, constructive collaboration in all military initiatives aimed at promoting a de-escalation of the situation and the restoration of international law.”

The ambassador said, “The safety of the Italian soldiers deployed in Lebanon remains an absolute priority for me and for the entire Italian government, so that the Italian peacekeepers continue their work of mediation and support for peace and stability in Lebanon and the entire region.”

Earlier Attacks

On Wednesday, UNIFIL said, Israeli forces deliberately fired at and disabled the position’s perimeter-monitoring cameras.

The occupation forces also deliberately fired on UNP 1-32A, where regular Tripartite meetings were held before the conflict began, damaging lighting and a relay station, according to a UN News report.

“In the past days we have seen incursions from Israel into Lebanon in Naqoura and other areas,” the UN mission said, confirming that the Israeli forces have clashed with Hezbollah fighters on the ground.

Israeli forces also fired on UN position 1-31 in Ras Naqoura, hitting the entrance to the bunker where peacekeepers were sheltering and damaging vehicles and a communications system, the report added.

An Israeli military drone was also observed flying inside the UN position up to the bunker entrance.

“We remind the IDF and all actors of their obligations to ensure the safety and security of UN personnel and property and to respect the inviolability of UN premises at all times,” the UN mission said.

UN peacekeepers are present in south Lebanon to support a return to stability under a 2006 Security Council mandate. UNIFIL said any deliberate attack on peacekeepers is a grave violation of international humanitarian law and Security Council resolution 1701.
