Nabeel Marouf, the Head of the General Palestinian Commission in Ottawa said Canada has decided to resume its donation to the United Nations Relief and Work Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA).
Marouf added that Canada decided to give $25 million in donation to the Palestinians, 20 millions of which will go directly to UNRWA.
The Minister for International Development of Canada, Marie-Claude Bibeau, said “It is the right of millions of Palestinian refugees to get their basic needs including healthcare and sending their children to school.”

The Minister added, “Palestinian who are in need for aid deserve all opportunities to positively contribute to their communities and this Canadian support will contribute to a better life for Palestinian refugees.”
The decision came after Stephan Harbor, the former Prime Minister of Canada’s cabinet, decided to reduce and later halt Canadian aid given to UNRWA in 2012. Canada was among the first countries to give aid to UNRWA and Palestinian refugees.
