Palestinian youth finally have a spot on the world stage. 
 
At least that’s true for 10th graders at the Ramallah Friends School, an American Quaker-owned institution with a 100 year history in the West Bank.
 
Since April of this year, the Friends school teens’ online magazine has received over 20,000 visits worldwide. Their publication – Behind the Wall (BW) is now in its third edition, and, no doubt, many more editions will follow.
 
BW was initiated by English language students last school year because they felt Palestinian youth were underrepresented on the world stage.

They were also convinced that their homeland needed at least one publication giving Palestinian teens a voice. Thus, Behind the Wall was created to share their attitudes, ideas, and experiences to the world.
 
It appears the Ramallah Friends teens are accomplishing their objective. Indeed, their publication is currently the only home grown and ongoing platform that Palestinian teens have on the web. They should be proud of this accomplishment.
 
The most recent BW issue is packed full of interesting articles. Its focus is on family values and experiences, and covers a range of topics from marriage to the Wall of Separation and Israeli checkpoints. The winter edition will focus on the big topics of freedom and religion.
 
Lastly, what makes this ezine even more fascinating is that it gives us all a little peek into the hearts and minds of Palestine’s younth, the very people who will one day be their country’s political, economic, and cultural leaders.
