Press release: Enough! demonstration in central London on 9 June calling for an end to occupation and justice for the Palestinians
Enough! is a coalition of charities, trade unions, faith and other campaign groups that have come together to launch a major campaign in Britain to call for an end to the Israeli occupation and justice for the Palestinians. 2007 marks the 40 year anniversary of the Six Day War, in which the Israeli army took military control of the Gaza Strip and West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
An Enough! national demonstration and rally will take place in London on 9 June, meeting at Lincoln’s Inn Fields at 1.30 pm and marching to Trafalgar Square. We are calling on the British government to stand up for international law and human rights. Join us to make this demonstration the largest yet in support of the Palestinian right to self-determination and to say enough to occupation.
The following public figures support the Enough! campaign, and are available for interviews.
“It is high time for the Enough! campaign to begin. The situation of the Palestinians is intolerable and Israel has already effectively made a two state solution impossible. If we want peace in the Middle East there must be justice for the Palestinians.”
Bruce Kent, Vice-President, Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament
“More and more British people are appalled at the way our government ignores Israel’s violations of international law and human rights which leave the Palestinian people imprisoned in the Occupied Territories and being starved by Israel and the International communities blockage. This demonstration is vital to show the British government that they must change their policies and actively support the rights of the Palestinian people.”
Betty Hunter, General Secretary, PSC 26 April 2007
"Most Palestinians live in poverty, insecurity and in the case of Gaza, in an open prison. The occupation means their lives are a daily routine of checkpoints and daily humiliation, as they try to conduct a normal life. "Enough!" is a campaign that will draw the world\’s attention to the crying injustice of the Palestinian people, and demand an end to Israel\’s occupation of Palestine."
Jeremy Corbyn, MP
" Ignoring the raw wound of Palestine is no longer an option – in our time the Palestinian community is being destroyed in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. Imprisonment of a whole people is now being tried, and in these desparate days it is time to say ‘enough!’"
Canon Garth Hewitt, Director of Amos Trust and Canon of St George’s Cathedral, Jerusalem
