Israel Security more ‘Catastrophic’ than Ever

Former Israeli Defense Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer has described Israel’s security situation as ‘more catastrophic than ever before, ‘urging a major hike in Tel Aviv’s military budget.

"Israel has never been in a more catastrophic security situation," said Ben-Eliezer, who is also a member of the Israeli regime’s Knesset (parliament) Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, on Wednesday.

"The Americans are going to clear out of Iraq soon and that will create an even harsher reality. There is no bright side," Ynews quoted him as saying.

On October 21, US President Barack Obama announced that all American forces would leave Iraq by December 31 and “America’s war in Iraq will be over.”

Washington decided to pull out all its troops from Iraq after Baghdad refused to grant legal immunity to the remaining US soldiers.

"When you deal with existential problems, you can’t gamble. Do we need to reorganize the defense? Yes! But budget cuts now – No.”

Referring to the protests of Israeli people over spiraling cost of living and social inequality, Ben-Eliezer said "this government is walking blindly, completely ignoring the social reality and focusing on the security situation."

Head of Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee Shaul Mofaz said that the Israeli regime has lost its ability to resolve internal problems amid external threats.
