At least two Palestinians have been killed in an Israeli ground and air attack north of the besieged Gaza Strip, medical sources reported.

Three others were also wounded in the air raid in Beit Hanun, close to the border with Israel, on Wednesday.

Israeli military has confirmed the attack, claiming that its attack targeted a group of Palestinian trying to plant explosives near the security fence.

Israel frequently carries out air and ground attacks against the Palestinian territory.

On Friday, two Palestinians were wounded in an attack by an Israeli tank in the Bureij town in eastern Gaza.

A Palestinian man was also killed in a similar attack in Bureij in mid-December 2011.

Israeli officials claim that the attacks are carried out “against any Palestinian activities by resistance factions.”

Gaza is often described as the “world’s largest open-air prison” as Israel remains in full control of the airspace, territorial waters and border crossings of Gaza.
