Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi had phone calls with foreign ministers of both Israel and Palestine and he reiterated Beijing’s call for preventing a further escalation and guaranteeing the basic living conditions of the people in Gaza, Chinese media reported.
According to Global Times, in his first call to his Israeli counterpart since the beginning of Israel’s latest military aggression on Gaza, Wang said that Beijing is “deeply saddened” by the large number of civilian deaths.

“China condemns all acts that harm civilians and opposes any violation of international law,” Wang said, adding:
“All countries have the right to self-defense, but they should respect international humanitarian law and protect the safety of civilians”.
“In a separate phone call with Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Al-Maliki the same day, Wang said what the people of Gaza need most is security, food, and medicine, rather than war, weapons and ammunition,” Global Times reported.

“China strongly condemns and opposes all acts that harm civilians and violate international law,” the Chinese top diplomat said, calling “for an immediate cease-fire to stop the war and guarantee the most basic living conditions of the people in Gaza”.
“China expresses deep sympathy over the difficult situation in Palestine, and especially with the people of Gaza.”
On October 7, Israel launched its latest military aggression on the besieged and impoverished Gaza Strip. The number of Palestinians killed and wounded in the Israeli war on Gaza rose to over 5,000 killed, and nearly 18,000 wounded.
On October 9, Israel imposed a “total siege” on the Gaza Strip, blocking the entry of food, water, medicine, fuel, and electricity.
