The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in the Occupied Palestinian Territories has revealed in a report published yesterday that some 27,000 Palestinians in Gaza are registered to travel via the Rafah Crossing into Egypt.
The report stated, “Since the beginning of 2016, the crossing has been partially opened for 14 days. Around 27,000 people are registered and waiting to cross, according to the Palestinian authorities in Gaza.”
Egypt had closed the Crossing since July 2013 for ‘security reasons’, leaving thousands of Palestinians unable to travel into or out of the Gaza Strip.

Egypt opens the Rafah Crossing once or twice every few months which aggravates the suffering of the people of Gaza.
The OCHA report noted that the Israeli assaults on Gaza have continued, saying, “In the Gaza Strip, on at least six occasions, Israeli forces opened warning fire at Palestinian farmers and fishermen in the Access Restricted Areas (ARA) on land and at sea, resulting in no injuries or damage.”

It added, “On another occasion, Israeli forces entered Gaza and carried out land-leveling and excavation operations.”
Palestinian factions and Israel had reached an agreement in 2014 to stop all forms of hostilities, yet, Israel continues to violate this agreement by besieging Gaza and shooting at Palestinian fishermen and farmers.
