Israeli forces detained four people, including a journalist and Oscar-nominated filmmaker, as soldiers dispersed weekly protests in the village of Bil‘in in the Ramallah district of the occupied West Bank.
Palestinian Filmmaker, Emad Burnat, Oscar-nominated director of the documentary film, “5 Broken Cameras”, was detained by Israeli forces along with the head of the local council Basil Mansur, and activist Ashraf Abu al Rahma.
Burnat’s documentary is a first-hand account of the protests in Bil‘in that began 11 years ago in response to the illegal expansion of nearby Israeli settlements, and the construction of Israel’s separation wall which separates Bil‘in residents from their privately-owned lands.

Bil‘in has long been one of the most active villages in terms of organized opposition against Israeli policies, where residents protested every Friday.
Abdullah Abu Rahma, coordinator for the popular resistance committee in Bil‘in said the protests will continue despite Israeli detentions and often violent suppression of the weekly protest.
