The Palestinian Ministry of Public Works and Housing has said that around 95 per cent of the rubble left after the 2014 Israeli war on the Gaza Strip has been removed.

In a statistical report issued on Sunday evening, a copy of which was sent to Anadolu Agency, the ministry said that 1.8 million tons (nearly 95 per cent) of the remainder of the rubble of houses that were destroyed by Israel have been removed.

The report said the work was done in coordination with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), through the Ministry of Public Works’ teams and the private sector in Gaza.

On 7July 2014, Israel launched a major attack dubbed “Operation Protective Edge” which resulted in the deaths of more than 2,150 Palestinians. Thousands of homes were also destroyed.

The ministry also said that less than 30 per cent of the money pledged by donor countries for the reconstruction of Gaza has been received.

In October 2014, donor countries pledged to provide nearly $ 5.4 billion in aid following the attack, half of which was to be “dedicated” to the reconstruction of the coastal enclave.
