A Hamas official says the US seeks to "bribe" the Palestinian Authority (PA) into relinquishing a call for a complete freeze in Israeli settlement construction.

US Mideast Envoy George Mitchell only has the proposals that were given to him by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Ar-Rashiq added.

During his visit to the region, the US envoy held separate talks with Netanyahu and acting Palestinian Authority Chief Mahmoud Abbas.

Mitchell put forward proposals that would "avoid" bringing an end to the illegal settlement construction on the occupied Palestinian land and would "bribe" the PA disguised as "good intentions," Ar-Rishiq said.

"If the Ramallah authority returned to the negotiations table, it will form a cover for Judaizing Jerusalem (al-Quds)," he said.

Ar-Rishiq also said that the US is making attempts to prevent a potential Palestinian unity. "The US is also working to stall Palestinian reconciliation efforts," he said.
