Israeli Foreign Ministry’s diplomatic employees’ workers committee has declared that it will go on a strike to protest the treasury’s policies.
The committee has also threatened to disrupt Prime Minster Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to Greece next week.
It declared that, as of Thursday, it will close its consulate offices in 100 Israeli embassies throughout the world, Ha’aretz reported on Wednesday.
Since the committee’s offices receive hundreds of visa applications from foreign workers each month, the move will severely harm Israel’s economy, especially in agriculture and construction sectors, the report said.
The Israeli diplomats further warned that they would not assist foreign officials and delegates traveling to Israel.
The diplomats have also planned not to observe the diplomatic dress-code, i.e. a suit, in protest to "the disgraceful behavior of the treasury officials."
The committee says there has been no progress in their work and salary conditions since their meeting with the treasury officials on July 12.
