Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert should be indicted in connection with an alleged bribery scandal involving a construction project, police say.

Olmert will likely be charged with accepting a bribe in order to advance the interests of real estate developers involved in the project called Holyland.

The ex-premier allegedly received 3.5 million shekels (921,000 dollars) bribes when he was mayor of al-Quds (Jerusalem) in 2003. Olmert, however, denied the charges.

The bribes were allegedly funneled through Olmert’s office manager Shula Zaken and his close associate and attorney Uri Messer.

In December, Olmert pleaded not guilty to charges of corruption linked to three other cases.

The 64-year-old man had resigned under pressure over the allegations in September 2008.
