Israel has unveiled a plan to spend about $6 million to construct new roads on occupied Palestinian land, a report says.
Palestinians view East al-Quds (Jerusalem) as the capital of their future state, but watch in dismay as Israel’s illegal settlements grow and roads expand deep inside the occupied lands.
They are concerned that the project will mean confiscation of more Palestinian land in East al-Quds. They say this is a greater plan Israel is conducting in order to remove all Arabs from East al-Quds.
The deputy governor of East al-Quds, Abdullah Siyam, says Israel plans to connect these roads to the many illegal settlements in East al-Quds in order to move further inside the occupied Palestinian land.
Land is very limited in East al-Quds for the 250,000 Palestinians who live in crowded neighborhoods, as Israel has made it nearly impossible for them to build and expand on their own land, a Press TV correspondent reported.
There are at least 242 Israeli settlements in the West Bank and nearly 30 in East al-Quds. The settlements are illegal under international law. Since September last year, when a 10-month freeze on settlement building ran out, there has been a sharp rise in construction of the Israeli settlements on the occupied Palestinian territories.
