Three Arab nominees will be presented for the position of director-general of UNESCO so far. Their names will be disclosed before the Arab League Council at the meeting scheduled for September 8, a senior official said.
In a press statement issued yesterday, Deputy Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ambassador Ahmed Ben Helli said: “We might announce other nominations in the next few days,” explaining that there are three candidates – one each from Egypt, Lebanon, and Qatar.”

He explained that the candidate of the State of Qatar is the GCC’s contender for the position, expressing his hope for an Arab consensus on the nominations.
