The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) said in a news report that the social and economic situation in Gaza is the worst in the world with the highest unemployment rate.
UNRWA added that finding a job in Gaza is not an easy task and that unemployment, according to statistics revealed by the Central Bureau for Statistics, was 41.2% among men and 62.6% among women in the first quarter of the year.
It further noted that, “Finding a job and being able to provide for family and paying bills is out of reach for many young people, especially among young females,” adding that “80% of them are jobless, according to the CBS statistics in the first quarter of the year.”

The report revealed that 80% of the population are aid-dependent, as are the fields of agriculture, health, education, housing and food.
UNRWA provides 1.3 million Palestinians with aid in the Gaza Strip. It also helps Palestinians by creating temporary jobs and building houses for refugees who live in miserable conditions and cannot afford to build houses themselves.
During the first four months of the current year, UNRWA provided 8,387 jobs, on a budget of 4.54 million dollars.
