Two Palestinians Die in Gaza Tunnel Collapse

Two Palestinians have been killed when a tunnel – used to import vital supplies into the Gaza Strip — collapsed, medical sources say.

This week, at least nine people have been killed in cave-ins and other mishaps in the vast network of tunnels between Egypt and Gaza.

Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, which has been under a crippling Israeli blockade for almost two years, use the tunnels — also known as Gaza feeding tubes — to import food, medications and other vital supplies into the enclave.

Some 127 people have died in the tunnels over the past three years, said Iyad Abu Hujaier of the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution (PCDCR) which recently compiled a report on the tunnels.

Israel heavily bombed the network of tunnels during its three-week offensive against the Gaza Strip at the turn of the year. The under-siege people of Gaza, however, were quick to reconstruct the tunnels.
