Palestinian protesters have staged a rally outside UN offices in Ramallah, West Bank, demanding the release of activists on an open-ended hunger strike in Israeli jails. The rallying protesters on Wednesday (May 09) slammed the United Nation Secretary General Ban Ki-moon over his silence on the condition of Palestinian prisoners. The Palestinian demonstrators called on the world body to take decisive measures against what they called Israel's abuse of jailed activists and unfair prison conditions. An estimated 1,600 to 2,000 Palestinian prisoners began an open-ended hunger strike on April 17 to protest against Israel's administrative detention rules, the use of solitary confinement, maltreatment of sick detainees, and difficulty in securing family visits and strip searches that are imposed on visitors.
